Belafonte: Why you wanna break our hearts?

This is something someone sent us a link to in an email. We won't try to stop them on their way out of town as they begin their quest for world domination... just as long as they don't screw that 13 year old girl out of her songwriting royalties.

We don't wanna get personal in this little battle (that was never the intent since we don't know any of them personally, and don't want to assume anything and make an ass out of u and me), so we'll just say that we certainly don't agree on music, but we do wish those guys the best on their road to whatever. Bon voyage, dudes!

I had a good chuckle to that Belafonte post in the link. Thought I'd break in the comments section too...

we can assure you that all 13 year old girls will be paid what they are owed. i think there's a 19 year old emo boy in there too. he can buy himself some new eyeliner.

we've been a band for a short time now. the songs on the EP were already well constructed before some of us came into the fold. now that we've played with one another for a bit, some new more creative stuff is starting to emerge. i'm going to throw another tired radiohead reference out there. this EP is our "pablo honey". now we're creating "the bends" and "ok computer". onwards and upwards.

i have a tendancy to shoot my mouth (and fingers) off before looking at all of the facts, but it's only because i'm dedicated and passionate about what i do. instead of going off, i should've just stepped back and said, "hey, that's their opinion, and that's fine," but in the end, what's done is done. so, i say we just agree to disagree and move on.

there's nothing truly offensive about the fact that belafonte was obviously created as a money-making machine. it's true, as sam suggested; all the songs are ripped off formulas and bland lyrics. nothing new or ground-breaking about it, and i think if you asked the songwriter, in a truly earnest conversation, he wouldn't deny it. put it on the record, however, and he may have something different to say.

absolutely. Like we said, we have no problem with making money per se, or even with bland, tired formulas if that is what someone wants to write. We just won't listen to it, and might make fun of it.
