It List: Saturday 3/25/06

1. Stereolab/Sam Prekop/ Archer Prewitt (Nokia Theater): I think everyone I know has free tickets to this show. And its a good thing, because despite the fact that Stereolab and the Sea and Cake guys are old favorites here at We Shot J.R., there are some risk factors for this show: 1) its at Nokia; 2) the most recent Stereolab we've heard hasn't been very good; 3) and you have to drive to Grand Prarie. If none of those things bother you, then you'll probably have fun.

2. Voot Cha Index/ My Heart is a Machine/ Washing Machine (Red Blood Club): Three young bands that we like quite a bit are playing at one of the dumbest clubs in Dallas. Should be fun anyway though.

i'd have to say that red blood club is DEFINITELY NOT one of the 'dumbest clubs in dallas'.

besides the fact that Mike, the manager is really accomadating to great experimental and punk music...

he provides a service no one else in town provides.

it's dirty... and punk rock... and all ages... and a complete hole-in-the-wall.

probably one of the most rock n roll places in town.

punk rock as in DIY is a good thing. do it yourself, book your own shows, make it all ages and make it happen thats how things get started. it's good to support these places. every place is a blank slate. it's what the people bring to it that makes it good or bad.

Punk is good. The name of the place is also pretty cool. I really wish I could have been at this show. I went to the opera tonight though. I'm not saying it wasn't a good time, but I am saying that a rock show is a better time.

all i have to say is that tonight's show at rbc went 2398347598 times better than our show at the metrognome collective. hopefully this becomes a trend...

and by that i meant us having better shows, of course...

There is nothing like smoking a big phatty and going to the opera...or the Metrognome Collective!

actually, Voot Cha probably won't ever play at RBC again, but it was still a badass time!

Washing Machine actually didn't play but they still came and supported us! It was just a show for the three bands that played and no one else! Privacy is always more fun anyway!

I was just kidding about "punk rock." What I hate is the bone head macho attitude that a lot of "punk rockers" give off these days. To me, most of the bands that play at places like Red Blood Club and at Deep Ellum punk shows in general have nothing to do with punk. Hardcore is NOT punk rock, and the Exploited is NOT punk rock, and mohawks and shit like that isn't punk rock either.

To me, its The Jam, The Clash, Ramones, the Germs, stuff like that. The new hardcore stuff has nothing to do with it.
