Mavericks 103, Grizzlies 93

Solid win for the Mavs tonight. It was a real group effort, and they actually looked like a team that plays the way you are supposed to in the playoffs: lots of aggression, defense, and clutch shooting when necessary. It feels really good to get that first win at home, as opposed to what happened last year....

The difference maker tonight? Well, other than Dirk (of course), it had to be Erick Dampier. I never thought I would say that, but its true. 12 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks doesn't look amazing on paper, but anyone that saw the game knows what I mean. He really made some big plays. If he can keep playing like this, the Mavs just might have a pleasantly long post season.

Oh, and Dirk Nowitzki: 31 points, 11 rebounds. If this guy doesn't get MVP this year, I'm going on a shooting spree. End of story.

i don't mean to be a pessimist, because i love the mavs and, if they ever win a championship, i'll be the first in line at the ticker-tape parade, but this isn't their year.

they probably wouldn't get past the spurs or the suns this year, but if they do, they can take the east.

they're gonna need more depth at point guard to get past san antone or phoenix though.

and you know nash will get the mvp. he's too good right now..

you better give your gun to taunto so he can start cleaning it....

fuck that... duncan's hurt, manu's got the same problems.... if San Antonio wants to beat Dallas they'll have to rely (how come i can't spell that?) on two ex maverics... finley and van exel... if duncan can't get a double double then they have to have the shooting of one of those two (if not both).... now, if tim gets his points and that little french bastard doesn't get his jaw knocked off by dampier first time he gets in the lane, we're gonna have some trouble.

phoenix? they are good.... but forget about them... we can take 'em

....and i'd bet that if you took the productivity of our entire group of centers (that basicly being diop and dampier.... sometimes Mbenga) and put it up against the best in the league, i'd bet we're up there.....

last night woulda been something like: 18 points, 18 rebounds, 4 or 5 blocks (may i mention that at least one of those blocks was an absolutely CRUSHING blow to a team that had all but given up)

...i'll take that any day.
just because one guy isn't in the 5 spot making all those plays doesn't mean we don't have anything at center right now.... our productivity at center is up there... and the Mavs won't likely face any elete centers who are actually playing like it (duncan... no, stoudemeyer... out.... if we somehow play the clippers... then we'll see a great center who is playing at the top of his game (unless brand is actually a forward, i forget)... we're probably seeing the most productive big man we'll see all during the play-offs right now in Pau Gasol.... it's just that memphis doesn't have much else (Bobby Jackson... but he doesn't seem like as much of a problem when he isn't backing up bibby and playing w/ webber.... ahhh, the Sacremento rivalry's of yore)

point gurad is actually a 1, 2 or sometimes 3 spot, but never a 5 spot.

centers play at the 5 spot.

oh, wsjr, thanks for the playoff mavs talk. it's a nice break from all this backstabbing music talk!

i think all this "backstabbing music talk" seems to be working, actually....

....we bitch about the sound at the cavern (and various other facets of the place)... we get a direct responce from someone who runs/helps run the sound.

...all that bitching about Black Tie Dynasty may have influences the infamous sam m. to write a less than positive review in the observer (where he suggests that the album makes them "look" like killers knock-offs, but (inexplainably) suggests that they are in fact capable of much more)

...if you have a problem w/ the "backstabbing" at least see what it can do.

...people are listening to what we say on this site, and the fact that we are in no way censored by who we are, who we work for, how old we are, where we come from, what we look like, or who we are friends w/ has allowed for some truly honest, if not honestly brutal banter that venues, bands, promoters, booking agents, and newspaper owners are noticing.

...i don't think we should complain about the amount of arguing that goes on here... i think we should relish it and learn that even if people on here disagree, there are people who are paying attention and using this site as a way to adjust.

...would i bitch about the shitty ass bartender at the cavern who charges me $1 for water and stands right next to me while she talks to a friend, refusing to ask what i want if i were in plain view?
...probably not.
would my complaining have any effect on the cavern in the future if people knew who i was?
...no

....i have more of a voice when i don't have a face on here.

i haven't "made my mark" on dallas/denton music as of yet

....but that doesn't mean i don't have good ideas and well formulated opinions

so anyway.... quit being so goddamn sensitive. I'll never understand how a group of people that is at least 1/2 musicians can get so pissy about what someone says... listen to them, but don't fucking overreact.

youdamnbabies.

Queezi was ON HIS GAME last nite! (I should know, I was there) ...

Did anybody else see that swooping finger roll slithering between & over two defenders? Some damn Dr. J / Iceman ABA mojo that was ...

Now THAT is point guard depth. He may be more of a 2 guard in build, but Marquis has a knack for team ball in a way that J Terry doesnt ...

if Damp looks alive like that (after getting called out by Dirk last year) this team really might do some damage after all

MORE Dampier Statue of Liberty drive-and-dunks! That's my vote.
