It List: Wednesday 8/9/06

1. The Party w/ Dj Nature (Rubber Gloves- Denton): Hey, have you ever said to yourself "man, it would be cool if there were a couple of DJs in this town that actually have good taste and don't play off ipods?" If so, you should know better. Dj Nature has been part of the small group of Djs in the US that have been at least six months ahead of everyone for the past five years. And he lives in Denton. So quit your bitching. Theres almost always a fun, good looking crowd at this thing too (another rare combo in DFWd), so its the perfect place to go tonight if you're looking for the smart kind of party.

2. The Dallas video Fest kicks off today as well. There will be some cool Laptop Deathmatch shit going on this Friday, but you should pay a visit to the schedule and see what you might be interested in.

Also, if you'd like to hear some good stuff on the radio, you might want to stop listening to broadcast and check out Chris's Gorilla vs Bear show tonight at 9pm on Sirius radio. Info

Oh, and because blogger sucks, you'll have to scroll down a bit to check out Defensive Listening's excellent piece of Infinite Zero. Do it.

what I meant by "doesn't play off an ipod" is that DJ Nature actually does his own original mixes in his set. I by no means meant to say that people who play off of ipods are per se inferior to people that spin records.

dj ango reinhardt is my fave. and some dj's are capable of playing music as well, at least that's what my mom tells me.

yes, I truly can't stand the "pick up a REAL instrument" argument. It seems pretty outdated and silly to me.

djing is about bringing music back to it's origional format. people who are on the radio b/c people trust their opinion, they play what they want and you listen... you like it, or you don't.

that, to me, is what being a "local dj" is about.... i don't care about your "mash ups" or your "mixing skills", i care about the fact that you may or may not be a knowledgeable source of good music, and you are attempting to show the public something that they may or may not be aware of..... it beats the hell outta kid cradic in the morning (or whatever the fuck it is now)

DALLAS VIDEO FEST is rad. Everybody should go who is into different persepectives and independent thought. Compared to this everything else film-wise is McDonalds/Blockbuster/DrowningPool
