10 bucks and byob sucks(arts avenue BS).

yeah that was weird @ sloppyworld last time. they're not legally able to have byob past 2 i think, so just bring a backpack of something. or even better, a camelpack.

1:52 is correct. Bring lots of drinks and make sure you are properly snookered by 2AM. If you want us to stay open for a while, we can't risk any cops coming in after 2 and closing us down. Or you could take the hint and bring a secret hidden stash but I didn't just say that. Anyway, If you can't go for 1 or 2 hours without a drink, then we can't really help you. But we still love you.

why can't under 21 hang out then? you're not even serving alcohol. it's basically just a building. no different than an unofficial art gallery.

3:08 PM

because who wants to hang out with people under the age of 21?

3:19 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

who wants to hang out with washed up thirty somethings who talk about seeing john spencer in the 90's? Not me, asshole. And I'm almost thirty. get a clue.

If you are under 21 and come to Sloppyworld after 2AM you can get in. It is only illegal to have minors and liquor in the same place at the same time. Don't know why. I guess they are afraid that we are turning all the youth of America into a bunch of deviants. Silly! We all know that they already are, thank God!

do you plan on being an all-ages venue when you become more "official"?

having sex w. girls under 21 is fun, but inappropriate.
okay, 18.

4:32-
We will definitely have "all ages" shows but we probably won't be all ages all the time. It also depends on whether or not we are able to get a liquor license. I am still trying to decide whether or not to even bother with one. It would be nice because I could actually stop losing money. I will probably never make money at this but it sure would be nice to stop bleeding cash like a stuck pig. It is a tough area dealing with the "all ages" dilemma because most people want to drink at shows and at the same time folks under 21 don't really have a place to see shows. What to do? Right now I just have to do what I've been doing and wait.

Honestly, persons could just drink INBETWEEN BANDS at meridian or any where else around the corner, if you did an 18+ show? right?

4:58 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

can't you like X people under 21 at the door like many clubs ...

4:58 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

4:58 #1-My sentiments exactly!!!

4:58 #2-Those other clubs can afford to hire a shitload of security to roam around the club all night and make sure that people with Xs on their hands don't drink. We can't afford that. And the "honor system" just don't work.

ok i'm going to help out sloppy world 10 times more then i'd help out any DEEP member.. get a liquor license through a liquor license brocker..

1. you'll pay pennies on the dollar.
2. you won't have to deal with your local licensing jerks.
3. you'll be the envy of all the DEEP members who know little about entertainment & food management (*sigh*)

Brockerd licenses can be for various times, and for various prices as you are essentially purchasing some failed smoes license(are transferable through both bankruptcy, and through the standard market). Another thing you can do is go in on someone else's brockerd deal. IE work with meridian room, and a bunch of other places that need licenses to get essentially a group deal(a brocker will take your group and get them added on to a chains license ie a city liqour license agreement with a bunch of chilies [also you won't show up on city councils radar this way]).

at the end of the day if you want to save money, break even or make a profit hire a consultant, or a person with a food/entertainment biz degree. this might sound 'corporate' but if you want to last longer then 2 months.. might as well hire a professional.

as when hiring any consultant for any reason. check references, and then double check them. believe or not some people out there just want to take your money.

ok just my 2 cents.. thanks, and fuck off.

Most of us have vehicles, whether your 18 or 21, that you can all go drink inside in-between bands...
or just walk around the corner...

i am still debating w. john if we are doing our show on the
3/13 (white mice, coathangers, pleasureboaters, dj scotch egg) at Sloppyworld
all these acts will play maybe 30min a piece. and white mice are so fucking loud
that you will probably be able to hear it outside anyway.

a)21+ and byob
or
b)18+ and no byob...

LET US HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS. Opinions please.

I guess people really need to ask themselves what's more important alcohol or the music.

21+ without question. Sex, drugs and rock n roll baby. Why should we have to choose?

I'm with you !! i'm old enough to have it all!!

I don't care if i buy it there or bring it with me. just keep it coming.

personally i'd rather buy it there. i got to much other crap in my pockets i can't be walking around with a 40!!

Club DADA does all ages shows sunday through thursday. I was shocked to find this out a few weeks ago. That is why i jumped at doing an all ages show for melodica. As far as what is more important booze or music...I go with the music. If I wanna drink bad enough after 2am I am resourceful enough to figure it out.
1. buy a flask and be discreet is a great idea
2. Drink in your car
3. get hammered between 10pm and 2am

We are better off with a 21+ venue than no venue at all. I think promoters should possibly consider doing early 21 and up shows clear the place out and then do the show again for 21 and up. If the under 21 kids show up and support there is no reason that this can't work. I think we have a few promoters in town that might consider this if people approach them about it. With the recent SUP scare that has already shut down a few clubs and threatens to shut down more I can completely understand the paranoia. Some kid gets busted drinking and poof no more venue. It's rock and a hard place.

Exactly! I would much rather buy alcohol at Sloppyworld then bring it myself but that's not my call. I'd just really prefer not to give money to Meredian room when obviously Sloppyworld is what brought my ass out in the first place.

next time go down to city hall and you'll see why all the venues are trying to provide you with a good show within what the laws allow.

They want to stay in business. let's help them!!

your definatly going to get your party on !!

don't be afraid to spend money whether you byob or buy it at meridian room your money is still going to locals!! (well not if you buy your beer at 7-11)

The point is what's important is the music , you'll figure out how to catch a buzz.

Personally, with the money I save on beer prices doing BYOB, I'm willing to pay more for cover to help keep the club open. The music is what matters, and having a venue is the most important part of that.

I think the best option is to have both BYOB 21+ and no BYOB 18+ or early all ages shows(be careful with curfew laws). See how many people show up to each, then make a more informed decision.

Can you sell non-alcoholic bottled/canned drinks?

yes. He was selling cokes an water last week. If you have been getting hammered all night you can rehydrate while you dance and avoid that nasty morning hangover.

wow , i can understand putting something together that everyone will enjoy, but enough is enough . can we make some decisions on our own or are the kids running the clubs.

perhaps , that's why the patriots lost the game the coaches let the fans call the plays.

Why not 17+ or even all ages?
