It List:Thursday

Scream Club/Rival Gang/Fire Nation/Sticky Buns (Rubber Gloves): Scream Club is a hip hop duo from Olympia with an irreverent emphasis on gay issues and politics, but are fairly light hearted in execution. Rival Gang is now a duo as well, and as a result the group has grown increasingly experimental with more drum machine as well a necessarily more minimal sound. Sticky Buns is always good, even when they accidentally play music by the band that's setting up and about to perform.

Lost Generation With Wanz (Fallout Lounge)

80's Night With DJ G
(Hailey's)

Brent Best/Two Cow Garage/The Heelers/RTB2 (Double Wide)

ADD: Delmore Pilcrow/Heartstring Stranglers/Deep Snapper/Admiral David V/Wild In The Streets (Strawberry Fields):

who is in rival gang now?

5:48 PM

I don't know but rival gang is two people from ctr including that one person from Fight Bite, who were on stereogum so now it's okay for the dallas music establishment to be interested in rival gang and c!tr and their related projects.

rival gang is no longer with that one person from record hop, which is a shame since record hop is not as good. but they are on quick and hunter hauk is in the back pocket of lots of local acoustic strumming brain dead clowns.

Ashley was an awesome asset to rival gang. we miss the girl but are very happy for her. Just today we heard someone listening to Record Hop's new album driving down the street!

The show tonight is a secret Myspace performance. Rupert will be there signing fake tits and wrangled pussies. All of our songs are called 'fire fighters in love'.

Are y'all going to play FIRE FIGHTERS IN LOVE tonight!?

That's my favorite song!

Too bad about Ashley.

Oh Well.

You guys should record with Steve Albini! I hear he does great things for bands in North Texas! Like GREAT things!

Leeanne's voice is beautiful. Fite Bite is by far her best project and the best new "shoegazer" music I've heard in years. Isn't that what you would call it? It plays tribute to that style while being original at the same time. Nobody around here sounds like that, like it is from a different era and a different land.
I've already played it for all of my reformed-goth friends and those with 4AD habits and they all love it. I didn't know she was capable of music like this, since ctr and rg seemed to come from a different but connected place and a more common noise punk attitude. How is it live?

Has anyone else seen the travesty that is the Quick "Battle of the bands"? Not that I expected anyone good to win, but the finalists are Lovie and Bridges and Blinking Lights. Seriously, WTF?

"Has anyone else seen the travesty that is the Quick "Battle of the bands"? Not that I expected anyone good to win, but the finalists are Lovie and Bridges and Blinking Lights. Seriously, WTF?"

It's Quick, idiot. What do you expect and why do you care? Ask yourself that and you'll understand WTF.

To 5:57 pm:

Cry me a fucking river.

and, NEWS FLASH!!!

If there are positive comments made about a band on this page, chances are they're coming from a member of one of the bands in question.

And that is super, duper lame.

Quit making the other members of your band/your "friends" look like idiots for being in a band with you. Thanks!

7:03 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Often, the comments are not coming from the bands themselves when they are positive. People in bands usually only have negative things to say about other bands. I thought everyone knew that.

9:39 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yes, but people on here do anonymously praise their own bands.

"I've already played it for all of my reformed-goth friends and those with 4AD habits and they all love it."

Do you realize how gay that sounds?

*POP QUIZ*

bring on the cake is either 1)a member of rival gang/ctr 2)a close friend of the members of rival gang/ctr who is trying WAY too hard to make their friend's bands look good and achieving quite the opposite, or 3)someone who is simply too retarded to live.

Tip: Next time don't be so freakin' obvious.

10:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

That is, unless you really are retarded. In that case, i'm sorry.

10:03 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

That's how I know, 10:00 pm.

10:07 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hey knowitall, bring on the cake doesn't even live here in the DFW area and no member/close friend of rival gang/ctr would insult Leanne by saying 'I didn't know she was capable of music like this.' And it seems to me that someone whose two favorite adjectives are gay and retarded may be the one who is too retarded to live. Plus, you fucking quote the movie Speed. *POP QUIZ* Do you realize how gay that is?

8:52 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I don't think that was an insult toward Leanne.

My nephew tells me this sort of lashing out is very common on the internet. I'm afraid he's right. I like to read a local Tomato Cultivation blog out of Blue Fern, Minnesota and the Marinara versus Salsa thread last month left a lot of people shaken. The anger even spilled out into the Minnetonka Baptist Church parking lot after the Women's Group! It started when Estelle got into the Church Newsletter after she began canning her mama's spaghetti sauce recipe for Big Pop's market. The one at 12th and Gray, not the bigger one next to Clayton Lumber. Some of the folks who prefer to just to make a fresh batch of hot sauce for Sunday Breakfast were not too happy about it. It's a shame how everybody turned on each other too because the gentlemen who run the website, Roma Ranger and Defensive Gardening, really offer up good tips on growing and soil care. I figure as long as people aren't using Hunt's Stewed, we're all really on the same team!

I'm sorry? Lashing out? I just don't like most of you people's opinions. Is there something wrong with that? Or would you prefer I pat you on the back and say "Good job, Tiger! Yeah, you're right, little guy. The Dallas Music Establishment is a bunch of doo-doo heads."?

No. I'm gonna tell you to shut up because you're whining is giving me a headache.

If you don't like my opinion, that's your problem, not mine.

Oh, no! Someone doesn't like MOST of our opinions! What are we going to do? What is everyone going to do?

Actually you not liking most of our opinions also sounds like YOUR problem, if you want to start assigning what problem belongs to whom. I'm glad you like the Dallas Music Establishment. Thankfully, you are in a very small minority of late.
