The Veldt Get Screwed

This is a repost of a Myspace message that we got today. I believe that this is the same band that was charged for DMF tickets that THEY were supposed to sell for an event that they weren't being paid to play at. And if the fact that the entire festival was about as cool as Fred Durst's movie collection didn't leave a bad enough taste in your mouth... The Veldt had their instruments stolen from them. Something tells me that the organizers of this "festival" aren't going to feel that they are in any way legally responsible for this... So the next time this shit train comes to town, lets all make sure that no one jumps on board. At least no one we like.

SO, NOT ONLY DID THE VELDT PLAY THE DMFU,BUT WE HAD SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS WORTH OF EQUIPMENT LIFTED FROM US.IT FEELS GREAT TO GET FUCKED ROYALY AT AN EVENT WHERE WE WERE ALREADY GETTING SCREWED.WHAT'S GONE? WELL, HERE'S THE LIST...

ADAM'S FENDER AMERICAN STRATOCASTER
JEREMY'S THUNDERBIRD BASS
ADAM'S ENTIRE PEDAL BOARD (I'LL GET THE DETAILS)&
BRENT'S MIXER

Oh wow, now that's some bullshit. Nice event. Glad I didn't support it this year and now never.

Lame about the equipment. People who steal shit like that from bands are the lowest scum.

It just sucks all the way around.. I hate the DMF it sucks balls and they blow alot of crap up your ass just to make you sell their Bullshit Tickets... And maybe you won't get to play in one of the more lame ass bars in Deep Smellum.

I know these guys personally and are truly good guys. They are tallented musicians, and didn't deserve any of that crap to happen to them.

But Deep Ellum is notorious for bands getting thier gear stolen. Here I will name the few bands off the top of my head:

Longview UK Band
Radiohead UK Band
Trainwreck Jack Blacks Band
The Veldt
Day of Lions

And I am sure we can add to the list.

I will never ever support this event nor will I encourge anyone to play it. Until they find a better system on orginizing this complete sham, I don't even think I would pay to see 70% percent of the terrible BUTT ROCK Bands...

We support Darkside Lounge ONLY! because they seem to give a shit about the music and the bands. It's just sad a majorty of the other places suck ass!

Deep Ellum Sucks Sucks Sucks!

here's an idea I had about the DMF-allah-crappola... we (bands, clubs, fans, critics, etc.) need to counteract those promoters and organize our own event. What would be really good is if all the clubs/venues in Deep Ellum were booked up so they would have to go elsewhere like Hell, TX or something. Gosh! My band played at the DMF and it sure was disheartening to hand them a wad 'o cash and get zero in return. Playing for free is cool if you are playing for a good cause but I doubt DMF routes that money into anything worthwhile. But that's okay because we really play for our own enjoyment. The only reason we ended up playing is because one of the organizers was hounding my brother about playing his solo stuff so we said yes and he wanted a full band. . . but alas it's time to move on.

And yes Zak people who steal shit from bands are the lowest form of scum on the earth... even lower than pond scum.

Sorry I'm ranting, that whole DMF thing really ticks me off... poor kids who thought they were really going to be seen by some record label or an A&R person.

About stolen gear- it happens to bands all over, everywhere. Keep a good eye on your stuff. Don't leave your vans/vehicles unattended while you're unloading and loading stuff in and out. Make sure someone has always got their eye out for the gear. Don't leave gear in your vehicles where people can see them. Leaving your gear overnight right in front of your "safe" house is also unadvisable. Remember kids- only YOU can prevent stolen gear!

It could have also been left behind. I'm helping manage The Veldt & from what I hear it wasn't the best show. When that happens, you try to get the "hell out of Dodge" and are more apt to leave equipment behind. I've e-mailed & called the venue with no response as of today, but we'll keep you updated.

I talked to Tom at Tom Cats (go figure) and lo & behold, no equipment (go figure).
