we should invite these guys to play at one of the DIY venues. We'll have video cameras there to video us simultaneously throwing up all over the band.

...or, if you're anti-vomit, maybe we could just douche them w/ water from a fire hydrant.

...and it's all caught on tape.
...that shit would circulate so well it's incredible.

In all fairness ... This has no relevance to the shit they bring on themselves, but they do what they do fairly well ... uh, musically that is.
Anyone who has ever liked the cheesier early Depeche Mode could at least see where they're coming from. At least it has character.
BTD over FlickerRadiantStick any day ...
uh, "bring on the hat

Oh, Andrea... Where would I be without you? You know, looking at this picture now for the 200th time today... I have realized 3 things about myself:
1.) I really am gay
2.) I don't ever want to hear a synthesizer, guitar, keytar or music in general ever again
3.) I need to try and rebuild my relationship with my parents

3:20 PM

are u talking about andreas picture or black tie

3:37 PM
Blogger Andrea Grimes said...

Oh, Gary P. Don't abandon the keytar.

3:45 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

this is where it gets real complicated..
example..
the cure, joy division*original source*(sort of,stranglers and i'm sure someone else may have been first)

interpol, killers-*revival rip-off source*

black tie dynasty-*second revival of the too late to rip-off first original source source*
by this time there a few hangers on.young girls that missed the first wave?people that just don't know any better?

see then it's over&over..til someone does something original..then over &over again.
PLUS you've got tons of other bands that do cross genres from time to time.then the originals are bled of all respect after these rip offs take over...

it's sickening & takes alot of constraint to not go on stage and blow these guys heads off.

yeah, I wonder if rip off bands tend to make people less inclined to listen to the original source music?

For example, does the ten years of Nirvana rip off bands that have come and gone negatively effect peoples experiences when listening to Nirvana? I think it might.

4:09 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think you are right about that SR.. I personally hate Nirvana b/c I've had to endure Nickelback as a result... Similarly, I just can't bear to listen to Peter, Paul and Mary b/c I have heard Salim Nallourah

4:19 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

haha was nirvana the source???

4:20 PM
Blogger stonedranger said...

well I mean that Nirvana was the source for most of the Nickleback bands. Sure, Nirvana pulled from its own set of influences, as did the rest of the grunge bands, but I bet your average Creed member doesn't know shit about any of Nirvana's influences other than those that get played on KZPS.

Nickelback is only one in a series of bands that adhere to an idea of a new wide appealing adult contemporary genre thought up by Clear Channel. No shit. I may be breaking confidentiality but... I work in a hoity toity drug rehab facility that had a clear channel executive at one time about 5 years ago. cool guy actually. He told me about a meeting he sat in on in which the idea was to come up with a whole new genre that mixed "young country" and "new rock". This new genre wouldn't be fully realized for about 10-20 years. But it would clump the YC and NR crowd into a bigger market and make more money off of them. So, I... I don't know where i was going with this. oh.. shit. Well, Nickelback is actually someone's cruel idea of what a Garth Brooks and Nirvana rip-off would sound like. More examples - Default and Three Doors Down.
At the time he told me this, I didn't think it would ever work. Well, feck me Clear Channel.

hey streisnad I just score video footaghe of P.I.L. live on the Old Grey Whistle Test doing Poptones into Careering. It is kind of mind blowing. You are gonna have to come by and check it out before I leave town. Oddly enough I quit listening to Sex Pistols as soon as I scored second edition in my teen years. sex Pistols suck. I love reading about them, but I don't think I have even listened to never mind the bollocks in over 15 years. I still listen to the first 2 P.I.L. records a few times a week........

Oh yeah. I have been showing this Black tie picture to all of my coworkers. Very entertaining.

HAHA... I USED TO DANCE MY ASSSSS OFF TO SOME A.B.C.

...and mwanz, i JUST recently picked up a "double origional" cd set of the 1st two PIL releases.... i'm not giving up on the pistols, but P.I.L is a helluva lot more musically interesting.

....second edition is quite rad. I found myself noticing how many bands that i listen to rip on them (just about every band i thought was mainly influenced by Gang of Four was probably equally influenced by P.I.L..... The Rapture for an easy example)

That's all I remember of the conversation. Every time I hear a shitty song on the radio I'm haunted by it. Yes I listen to radio when I'm at work. Usually in the patient transport van on my way home to poop.

pooping on the clock is the new not doing anything at work.

oh yes, it negativley affects those bands..
TOO MUCH of a good thing will make you sick after a while..
and that's with anything, not just music..
that's the way of the world..
when will a flipper revival start?

9:13 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

dude, unless you're a complete jackass, you would have known PIL was cool like 15 years ago.

if you're under the age of 25, then you have a 5 year grace period...

15 years ago I was 17 years old and about to graduate high school. I bought second edition when I was 15.The first 2 albums are still cool and much cooler than most of the indie stuff coming out now a days. C'mon. It's good stuff. Still.

when i think of music that is "so 15 years ago" i think of Wrex N Effect (not sure i spelled that right, sorry superfans)... not P.I.L.
