It List: Tuesday 8/1/06

Hey everyone. You may have noticed my lack of posts on here as of late (which some of you might think is bad ass and stuff). Well, my job has forced me to spend a good deal of time doing, you know, work, and will continue to take up a lot of my time through the end of this week as well. Defensive Listening has been nice enough to give me a hand with some things around here, and he'll continue to run the show for most of the rest of this week.

Things should be back to normal this weekend, and next week we'll return with some new features, a new contributor, and a few other things that we're going to try in order to expand and improve what this blog is all about. So sit tight ya jerks, because shits about to get good around here.

And in my limited time to look, all I've found going on today is Wanz's Lost Generation night upstairs @ the Cavern. Not sure exactly what he has planned tonight, but I'm sure it will be good as always. Maybe he can tell you more in the comments section.

And if anyone has any suggestions for good shows tonight that I might have missed, fell free to post a comment. Thanks.

Lost Generation update for tonight.

I am dropping some Scratch Acid, Jesus Lizard,Rapeman and Birthday Party in tribute to the Scratch Acid reunion show in Austin. On top of that another mega mashup mix by myself including everything from Spank Rock to Diplo to Digital Mysticz to Ladytron to MBV to DFA to Mathematiques Moderne to Hot Chip to Silver Apples to Boards of Canada to .......you get the picture. A little rock. A little booty hop. A little bit for everyone. Next tuesday we are holding Lost Generation downstairs and will have some very special guests guest dj'ing or performing. No cover and $2 drink specials always.

I am also planning a history of local music night in a few weeks covering old forgoitten bands like MK Ultra,Carrier Wave, Original Mazinga Phaser, Comet, First Rays, Fireworks, Brutal Juice and a lot of the newer bands as well. I have been working on a Texas nuggets-style comp that I want to get out next year. Doing the digging has really brought back some good memories. So I figured a whole night of stuff I have uncovered would be kinda cool. Cheers!!!!!

I really dug what I heard from Wanz last night. The morph from MBV to Cure mixed with Snoop was especially pleasing. Keep it up, man!
The hip-hop show was fun too. Steve Austin had to cancel for personal reasons, but promised to make it up in the future. If anyone that was there would like a partial or full refund for his cancellation, let me know. I'll make it good. Cheers!

Wanz - I am digging the MK Ultra record Chris was nice enough to send me. Real question is, are you could to weed out the chaff with some OHM or VDO?

Of course. Ohm was always one of my favorites back in the day. VDO I have major personal issues with. I usually try to overlook personal issues, but it is really hard with that guy. He screwed over a lot of people including myself. Did you ever hear the Tone Float record? It was a Krautrock tribute record that came out in the mid 90's that had the VDO guys, Doug(bless his Soul) from Ohm, My girlfriend at the time Kate,Daniel Huffman (Ghostcar and Comet) and myself. Kate and Daniel were not given credit on the CD. Despite the shitty politics involved it was actually an excellent modern take on Krautrock in the fine tradition of Cosmic Jokers or Embryo. I don't think anyone even bought the record locally, but it did real well up north and overseas. I wish I still had a copy.

W.Dova -

Of course I have the Tone Float. Wanna buy it? Hah.

Yeah it's a nice, more conventionally palatable & melodically friendly take on the VDO/Kosmische meltdown. Had no idea Huffman was involved. Interesting.

Did you have a problem w/ Matt or Eric? Weird dudes no doubt, but the stuff Doug played on was mind-Blow'n & sandblasted ...

Doug Rules and I miss him a lot. Easily one of the hardest funerals I ever had toattend. They ended the service with a magma song. Eric and Matt are assholes. they screwed over a lot of people on top of being stuck up spoiled brats. They drugged up Mercury Rev after a show a coaxed them into an improv jam. They recorded it with out telling them and released as a collaboration without their permission, And that was back before Mercury Rev turned into disney music.

So, they jam-raped Mercury Rev?

God it must suck to be a scenester.

I sweat jam-rape, bro.

those guys were far from being scensters. They were stuck up Hippie Goth trust fund pricks with ridiculous record collections. Matt moved to New Orleans years ago. I heard he lost everything in the Katrina Storm. Could not have happened to a nicer guy.
