Jonanna Widner Fired

A super secret inside source from the Dallas Observer confirmed in an email to us this morning that Jonanna Widner was fired as Music Editor yesterday. A retrospective on her role in the highly regarded local cover band/dudes with birds nest hair scene is forthcoming.

None of the details are available at this time, but I bet someone will send us something soon. Stay tuned.

Noah would be good. He actually likes music, goes to shows and writes stuff that doesn't put you to sleep after three sentences, or make you pull your hair out with frustration.

You could have replaced "highly regarded" with "highly retarded" and the sentence would still make sense.

Unfortunately for you, other people writing about music doesn't excuse you from doing your job.

I think 2:14 is talking about the very last commenter in that link. Which, as far as I can tell, has nothing to do with Jonanna--unless she's a former Observer music editor with an affinity for "Nintedo."

Do people seriously think Noah Bailey would be better? By how much? I have two words for you: "Post Mangum." Look it up. He actually made that little beauty of a term up.

The ONLY good thing about Jonanna was that she wasn't some tired old Dallas singer songwriter worshipper shoveling it in at All Good Cafe, hanging out with Pleasant Grove. Do you think that dude would honestly pay any attention to anyone that isn't some sad sack acoustic bullshit? As horrible as that Ghosthustler article was, under Noah Bailey, that shit won't even be considered music. Good luck, Dallas. Things might get even worse if you actually support a somehow even more clueless and close-minded regime.

as a freelance writer for the Night & Day section of the D.O. and a future rock venue owner and a local "musician", I think we should try to bring Lester Bangs back from the dead and have him take over as the new music editor. That guy had moxy!!!

Well shit, here I was hoping I'd get my big chance to have Hot Flash be put on the cover of the Observer and billed as semi-annual Yak-Calling competition. I'm still angry over that god-damned Ghosthustler article. Love them or hate them, that was a piss poor example of reporting.

5:51 PM

Also, we need the Observer to start functioning as an enabler because Dallas gets too caught up in cliques sometimes.

Although I suppose that's more up to the people of Dallas.

Jonanna wrote about my band, Sarah Reddington, once and did a terrible job. I don't think she even really tried. She mentioned everyone in the band besides the lead singer, and then managed to say "Cody Seals is not Sarah Reddington", assuming that Cody Seals was the lead singer and not the drummer? That girl needs to do some research...maybe then she wouldn't get fired?

It was awful. I don't think she'll be missed.

^^^Wow, quintessential Widner. Also known as horrible. How odd that a recently fired music editor made another handful of grammatical errors and obviously didn't proofread her blog entry. Twelve-year-olds can, and have, done better.
