First, take a look at the full line up (click here), which includes highlights Silver Apples, Spectrum and Mike Simonetti, among others. Next, check the line up we organized for the We Shot J.R. Special thanks to both Wanz and John Freeman for getting all the money together to make this happen.

listen, little boy. someday you'll be 21. you'll sit in a bar and order a beer like any other grownup. you'll think back to this comment thread and how you responded. and you'll feel embarrassed. it happened to all of us. with a little work, you might get ahead of the curve and feel stupid as early as next week. Is this what those big 'grownups' say in response to a little boy?

I'm not embarrassed at all actually and I'm completely aware I'm being immature. I really just don't care. Why do you so much?

yes, it does crack me up. but, wanz did set up the festival, so he can put himself where he wants to.

but it is pretty silly.

Well, yeah... it's obvious that he can put himself where he wants to. It's also obvious that the man has no sense of modesty. Like I said... just cracks me up.

I did not do that on purpose. I am sure some of you would rather I not even play my own festival. I kind of started at the top of the list and just started typing. I reeally don't think realize how ridiculous you sound on here sometimes. This festival will be a good thing for DFW. Promoting unity in a music community that desperately needs it. Is it really necessary to bust my chops even when I am trying to help. c'mon.

I am plenty humble about my craft. I am an extreme music geek and proud of it. If you are not a huge fan of your own music then you are probably doing something wrong. If you have such strong opinions about me why noy drop the anonymous schtick. get in my face and tell me what your problem is. Considering I spend all of my free time with my girlfiend or band/crewmates I am pretty sure you don't know much about me, my music or my personality. Get off of the internet and trying meeting people the old fashioned way. By talking to them.

grow up.

I am not trying to promote myself. I am trying to promote something positive in this city. I will never be accepted by some of the jerks that post in these comment section for reasons that have nothing to do with my actual music. You don't know me or my motives.

I know I have a lot of friends that read this shit. It would be nice if you could maybe stick up for me once in a blue moon.

Great job Wanz. Don't listen to the negative jerk comments on here.
I'm sure most people appreciate what you've done with this and could care less if you put your bands name first on the poster.

this is going to be the best two consecutive days of continuous musical saturation dallas has seen in a long time, if ever. and there will be plenty to choose from, so if you don't want to see indie rock, you can see dance music. if you dont want that, there will be noise, etc., but the best will be for people who want to take in a big variety. thanks wanz!
ps don't forget there will be a very cool all ages show the day afetr featuring some of the melodica artists, but also some bands that were not featured on the main fest...

Not to sound like a fucking hippie or anything, but in regards to all the above comments concerning the order of names on the flier and all that other stuff: "THE MUSIC IS ALL THAT MATTERS!" That is the bottom line. It's a MUSIC festival. MUSIC!!!!! Isn't that enough? Enjoy yourselves, please? Thanks.

The argument about the local artistic community lacking potency is a constructed misperception perpetuated by the local culture of self-effacement, which is a product of perception-conditioning that the ethnocentrism of other metropolitan cities places upon us due to their fabricated monopoly of art and culture.

Locals tend to unfortunately focus on the negative which negates the reality. The reality being there is plenty of opportunity here to create, the main obstacle is not logistical, legal, economic or cultural (though these are indeed real-obstacles, they are probably actually less of a concern here compared to NYC and other coastal cities) it is the lack of belief by the local creative community in one another and in our environment.

The reality also being the quality, quantity and diversity of artists in the area is very high. Compared to other cities where artists gain instant credibility simply based on their address is to me a bloated product of the commodification of identity and art, which often results in formulaic corporate servitude. The myth of art and success that this paradigm suggests is completely reflective of archaic 20th century economic models.

Just looking at the extensive lineup I would say the creative class in our metropolis is healthy. Especially (if I am wrong please correct me) since this festival is transpiring without any corporate or "official" record industry sponsorship.

Nice job Wanz.

andrew hit the nail on the head in my opinion. i like a lot of the music emerging from these parts lately, and i really only see it getting better as time goes on. this festival will hopefully propel that even further and faster. good job to everyone that's involved with it.

as a member of this "creative class" or whatever for the past decade or so, i'm quite excited about many things going on around here musically. even if its not totally my taste, alot of the younger folks seem very dedicated to creating as a way of life... not a bunch of four year rebels playing weak rock so they can have stories for their children proving they werent always boring shits.
the good stuff on this fest is really fucking good. you should have no reason not to go

Wanz doesn't suck for putting it together. That was fairly decent of him. He sucks for putting his name in big fucking lights at the top of the bill.

His band is a bad knock-off of the fall.

to 1:35pm

We have one song that patys tribute to one of my favorite bands and burners. Give me a break. Our sound is pretty diverse and everything I am into can be heard through out all of the material. The new updated flyer has The Frenz listed farther down the list to appease assholes like you.

I think it's pretty obvious that you are the one that sucks since the only thing can contribute is insults. Go do something productive.

FUCK OFF!!!

Good job Wanz!

At least while they're bitching, we can create.

Thanks!

Oh and the lineup is amazing, Wanz.

4:52 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

while there is no denying the quality of wall of sound's rosters (although i would argue melodica will be more diverse genre-wise), it does nothing to promote the well-being of venues in the area, or a sense of community among the local musicians and clubowners. not to mention the corporate sponsorship. there's a big coors light logo on their site for fuck's sake.

here's a few ideas. put your own music festival together and organize the names alphabetically, if you're that concerned about diplomacy or whatever shit you are on. when it all is over and done with, the last thing anyone is going to be thinking about is a fucking poster that was passed around on myspace.

if you are unhappy with the "scene." do something to make it better like mwanz is doing. (a scene implies unity, we all need to try to work on that)

if you're going to be a music snob or elitist...know what the hell you are talking about.

if you want dallas to be better, make it better. which i am sure is all wmanz and the other organizers are trying to do

music is supposed to inspire and unite. and many of us seem to have forgotten, we are a part of an underground. we are all misfits, nerds, and the like. so get off your high horses.

go to shows (and not just for the photo op and the fashion show. act like you want to be there)

5:21 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Thanks 5:21

most people just sit around an complain all day.

generally people that don't do anything nit pic at the unimportant and get wrapped up in drama.

if you spent more time on your art or music you might have something worth sharing.

I've always been succesfull mainly because i put 100% into what i do , unfortunatly most people don't.

so, get yourself a healthy attitude and a good work ethic and start making something of yourself.

don't worry about the scene .

finish your beer and get back in the lab.

cheers .

music is not supposed to do anything. so get off you fucking high horse. art is what the artist wants it to be. please take your romanticism and stick it up your ass.

10:09 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

additudes like 10:09am is exactly what makes DFW suck. This town could use a little romanticism over this type of shitty attitude.

Take your cynicism and stick it way far up your own ass. People like you have ruined this town long enough. Step aside and let something positive come through.

10:58 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

positivity alone is NOT enough, the music also has to not suck. that's what's wrong with you idealists. I'll take a good band or artist with a shitty attitude over anything else, any day. If you take a closer look at your record collection, you'd realize you also support this sentiment, whether you like it or not.
