This Weekend: Last Mazinga Show

So as a lot of you probably already know, this Saturday's Lost Generation concert at Hailey's will serve as the final performance of Mazinga II, as Wanz appears to have officially disbanded the group. It also appears that the Black Arm Band will be calling it quits too, although its not clear when or why. This, of course, leaves Wanz bandless in DFWd, which is sure to make some of you sad, others happy, and some completely indifferent. Well, here is what Wanz had to say about it via Myspace, on a post about Saturday's show:

"This also happens to be the last Mazinga show and those that know me know that I like to go out in style. After this weekend I will be in no bands. I may start playing drums part time for one of my friends band, but I will have no input in that project and will be doing it for shits and giggles. I am doing a few shows with The Falkon(Original line up) later this summer, but we are not getting back together. The label that was gonna release The Black Arm Band debut is gonna release the unreleased Falkon record that we recorded with Matt Pence a few years ago. There is a reason Falkon split and those reasons still stand. I do not want to be in any band full time right now or anytime soon. I have a solo album coming out on Mixtape Meditation out of Lawrence,KS and have a lot of friends from several cities/states helping me with it. I also have a few projects in the fires with people in other parts of the country. I have landed a residency with DJ Nature and Stephen R(of Zygote) at Club One and Laptop Deathmatch is getting bigger and better. I have never been an easy fit in the DFW scene. I don't think either of my bands are gonna be missed all that much by most, but to the few that have shown great love and support I sincerely thank you. Cheers!!!!"

i agree with anon 1, but wanz, it's good to focus sometimes and create a balance with all the things you like t do. time for some of the deathmatch/dj/laptop/solo to come to the forefront for a bit

ok isn't this the 800th last show for wanz's various groups?

C'mon it's getting old. We've seen him whine about how 'nobody likes me' in the observer for years. waaaaahhhhhhh!

i would like to file this under the 'who cares' category.

i will make sure to use more single quotes in my next post.

Good God.. Isn't this the 39th "Wanz farewell" show? My Lord, Phil Collins has played fewer "last shows".

if half the people in dallas were like wanz maybe dallas would be a cool place to have a band. He puts more energy in this piece of shit city than anyone else.

The above comment is true. also true is that the above comment may also be the exact reason why so many people dislike or are sick of him. i don't think it's right, but when someone puts themselves out there in such a way it's almost ALWAYS going to end up pissing some people off (notice how the undoing have some people pissed off these days?)

to quote whitney houston "it's not right, but it's okay... i'm gonna make it anyway"

well shit, I was looking forward to the completed Mazinga stuff myself. I don't quite get the hate... Mazinga was definitely one of the more interesting music projects in town and I was looking forward to watching it evolve.

Maybe some time off and some focus like the anon said will be good...

watching it evolve? shit, where have you been the last 15 years?!?

oh, and didn't wanz just book this show recently, having his "black arm-band" on the bill originally?

so, at what point did b.a.b call it quits? at what point did mazinga II reunite, then decide to call it quits again?

The guy truly needs therapy and meds.

by the way, i noticed there's several other noteable bands on saturday's lost generation bill. too bad wanz is trying to steal the spotlight with all this dysfunctional band drama.

Actually I just don't like being a target. Iam not stealing the spotlight from bands I booked. I don't need therapy. I don't have any band drama. Here is the real skinny for anyone that cares. My bassist Kevin had to move back to Austin after going to Kansas to make the record. He played bass in the Black Arm and Bass/drums in Mazinga II. Greg from Black Arm/Falkon/unconcios Collective/Monks of Saturnalia is moving to Chicago in August. he is already paying rent there and will be gone by end of summer. I am sick of constant line up changes. A lot people think this happens because I am difficult to play with. Simply not true. I always play with great musicians that usually have their own agenda/vision and I usually encourage them. Their strong musical voice is usually why I play with them in the first place. Kevin is still gonna tour with me behind the record. I have been doing this along time and always spreading myself thin. I have come to a point where I really believe in the music I am recording and would prefer to concentrate on one project. Put all of my eggs in one basket. I am in the middle of making the record I have been wanting to make my entire career. I want to see it through to it's full potential. I will be back and playing it live in The Fall, but mostly as a touring entity only. There is no name for the band but it the record will come out as Wanz Dover and the "(insert backup band here)". I am pulling friends from different parts of the country that are availble to do 4 to 6 week road trips to support it and also believe in the music.I seem to have a decent 50/50 ratio of support around here and despite my detractors I get a lot of props from a lot of people. all of my band mates that have heard the record support my decision and agree that it's about time for me to bowing out move on to the next part of my career. I am edning a chapter of my career to open a new one. One where I focus on myself a little more. I posted the bulletin on myspace through my personal account to go out to my friends. The assholes that always want to take shots at me on here(one of the reasons I am bowing out)are not my friends and there opinions don't matter. they don't know me. they have never smoked a spliff with me and kicked it. All they know is from rumours, bad press or misinterpreted quotes. I like to support musicians and always have. I don't talk shit about anyones band. Ever. It's childish and just not my style. After all of these years someone is finally helping me out. I owe Jerett at mixtape a huge favour. He is giving me the chance to make my dream album. It's nice to be the helpee and not the helper for a change. THIS IS NOT MY LAST SHOW. IT IS THE END OF THE MAZINGA. Big difference. I am doing a few falkon shows this year to support the release of the record, but we are barely gonna rehears for that(we can play that shit in our sleep). To all of the haters....Look in your heart (if you have one) and let me move on in peace.

Samantha M hit the nail on the head. Balance is good. Come out early and see a damn good bill. YOU ARE THE UNIVERSE, PEGASUS NOW, LAPTOP DEATHSQUAD, WARREN HEARNE AND GREAT TYRANT. I DIG ALL OF THESE ARTISTS. I HOPE YOU GUYS TOO. Cheers!!!
