It List: Thurday 6/1/06

1. Notes From Underground/Mom/ Chief Death Rage (Rubber Gloves): This should be a fan fuckin' tastic show. We're already fans of Notes (drone, noise) and Chief (stoner, punk, Sabbath), but we just heard Mom for the first time today and really enjoyed it. Their music is dreamy and experimental and tape loopy and kind of hard to describe, so go listen. A good collection of some of the better bands in the area right now.

2. Silk Stocking/Country Teasers/ Gorch Fock / White Drugs(The Cavern): Silk Stocking is creepy and bluesy minimalism done pretty damn well. Never heard Teasers, and Gorch Fock is some kind of loud creation that reminds me of a way cooler and harder Janes Addiction with horns slash a less dumb version of GWAR. I bet they put on a good show, so get there early foolios. We were reminded that White Drugs is playing this show too, and as we've said before, they rule. Get there even earlier.

3. DJ G (Hailey's): Do we have to tell you about this?

The Country teasers kind of similar to The Fall's older material, but meaner. I have played their stuff at Lost generation. a few great records on In the Red records. Gorch Fock are a decent Austin band in the Butthole Surfers school of thought. I think they have an actual connection to the Surfers. This is gonna be a really good show. Of Coure Silk Stocking rules and I have heard good things about White drugs.

country teasers reminded me so much of a polite fall

gorch fork sounded like baboon to me.Or even a bit like jesus lizard

first time i've seen silk stocking and she reminds me of diamanda galas/tom waits cross.

White Drugs are a mass of noise that brings to thought of early wire.

good fucking show including the comedy bit

I know this is a late post, but seeing that not too many people knew about the show's main participants (from my standpoint), if anyone is wondering about the recently missed mysterious Scottish marauders, The Country Teasers, they are one of the finest satirical, hi-fi or no-fi, novelty (but too damn smart and serious to be jokey) bands on the planet earth these days. They'll record a 12 song studio album they hate for the sound quality(Destroy All Human Life), that you may never hear, and the next year, release a 20 song 4-track, crackly, break-beat masterpiece (Science Hat Artistic Cube..), expecting the same audience reaction; not giving a fuck or missing a beat.

I missed their show this last weekend for financial reasons, but I have made the trip to their safe-house shows in Houston in the past to witness their greatness (because they wouldn't come here yet). After hearing all I could of their material, the traveling trip was a necessity. I'm sorry I missed it in my own backyard, and I'm sorry if you did. Order their entire back catalogue if you like The Fall, The Cramps, and have tolerance for racial, sexual, and misogynistic satire. Your faculties will be tested and sadistically satisfied. A male sung "Stand By Your Man" cover, for christsakes...think about cool is that?
