I usually ignor these posts but I've got to say something this time.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't UTD an internet only station? Do they report to CMJ? Why are you posting this play list? Aren't there literally a million places that we can find music on the internet? I don't see any local bands on this list so...whats the big deal?

And somewhere off in the distance.....

....someone cared.

well I'm glad you're taking a stand on this important issue.

I'm sure that this may go without saying, but Bonnie Prince Billy "I See A Darkness" is, in my opinion, a very good album. Solid songwriting throughout and really sparse details that require headphones for proper listening.

Has anyone heard the new BPB album and what are your thoughts?

i know this post is already dead, and most likely no one will read this, but i'd just like to clarify a few things.

yes, radio UTD is internet only. it was started in february 2003, and it's been getting gradually larger since then. but getting a frequency takes time and lots of money. the latter we don't have much of, be we make do. waiting for the FCC to open a filing window for a low power FM signal takes a while as well. the market here is saturated.

yes, radio UTD reports the charts you see each week to CMJ, and we have been for almost three years now. we've also attended the past two CMJ conferences, and are attending the conference at hte beginning of novermder also. we've also gone as a statio to the past two SXSW and team clermont balls in athen, ga. i'd say it's rare to meet other texans trying to do college radio, and even more rare to meet anyone from the metroplex at these events.

there are millions of places to find music on the internet. good point.

as far as the local bands go, we rarely get music submitted to us from local bands. if we do, they're through one promotion company based in athens, ga. based on what we receive for on-air play at the station, you'd think that there is a total ban on making music in the state of texas. a few misra records releases, good records releases, and some black angels, and that's about it. if you're in a band and you want your stuff played and possibly charted, then send it in:

Radio UTD
P.O. Box 830688 SU21
Richardson, TX 75080-0688

so yes, we may not seem important, and we've never claimed to be important. we're a diversion for the students at a very socially bankrupt university. we try to put together shows that aren't typical of other college radio station. we have a fairly diverse listener base and try to attract people not only from DFW but from all over. and every semester we try to entertain everyone with a show. shiny around the edges, bosque brown, and the strange boys have played in the past. and coming up on friday is the baptist generals and teenage symphony.

i know that bored the one guy that read it, but i just wanted to make those points.

I think Radio UTD is one of the best things going in the area, which is why I post those charts each week, and why I will continue to do so. Radio UTD is the only entity in this area that is playing the kind of music it does, and that, to me, is pretty significant.

Thanks for the informative response! I wasn't trying to bag on anyone, just trying to get some questions answered. Hopefully a frequency will open up for you guys soon.

Open up yr own frequency. Ever heard of doing the "fuck the FCC"
thing? If you get busted once nothing will happen.
