17. John Legend - Once Again
18. Malajube - Trompe-L'oeil
19. Animal Collective - Hollinndagain
20. Tim Hecker - Harmony in Ultraviolet

Tim Hecker's Harmony in Ultraviolet is an incredible record that is slowly becoming one of my favorites this year. Its certainly not the easiest music to wrap your head around right away, but anyone that likes shoegaze or the darker side of ambient will dig it. In other news....

SCENE RULE #76: The Burden Brothers aren't allowed to wear eyeliner anymore, and any other Dallas band with an average age of 34 or greater must apply for a special eyeliner permit before wearing it in public. Thank you.

What the fuck happened to Todd Lewis? And Casey Hess (Doosu was a great local band back in the day... See, I always thought he was the "cool" one. I would think Eric would be more prone to "glamming" out with my dad's bowling team band. SUCH a mystery to me, this whole thing. Plus, every track I've heard previewed is about, well, being in a band. One song is about a bad gig. Two songs mention the song that is being sung (?)... Just, like, no type of.... smarts?... at all... Add on the blatant Hold Steady ripoff... I bet Lewis is killing himself over the fact that he didn't try to sell out when he was at least younger. Might have worked. Instead, it's opening for 7 Mary 3, playing pool halls in Abilene, and the slow and steady truth of what could have been. Plus, the best part? this whole make-up, glam, hot topic trend surely won't last. THEN what are they going to do? Would it be such a fucking pain to just have gotten a new bass player and written a good toadie record? If it was good enough, coupled ith the fact that the first one went multi-plat... Surely some young kid that was a new A&R at a good label could have done them right. Like, "man, I fingered a chick to Tyler back in the day. Make me a record".

Burden Brothers, Feds, Greatness in Tragedy, South FM, Radiant, The Vanished.... there is your music scene North Texas... Face it.

I mourn with you.
This town needs an enema.

Will it be the Strange Boys?
Will it be PPT?
Who else is "buzzing" locally and on A&R screens?

Fuck. Doesn't matter. i just shot myself. I'll be dead by the time I click publijierhbbb

they were allowed to wear eyeliner? eyeliner is generaly a bad idea, but it's ESPECIALLY a bad idea for an entire band to wear eyeliner (especially if you have a fucking family and are over 30)

Hey what about Baboon? They've been playing the same boring shit since 1991. They still think they are relevant. HA!

Baboon and FTM get passes from me. You are basing your comments on heresay and empty spite. You are what we call someone that doesn't "count". Longevity and success are good.

Being boring for a long time is nothing but being boring for a long time.

Love you. Kisses.

It's very obvious that you do not know what you're talking about. Next time you are boring enough to start a scene, survive happily for a decade, sell thousands of records and top that decade off with your best record yet, give me a call. They are true mature DIY guys who could care less about blog buzz, hipster acceptance, and such. they make great music for themselves, are old enough to know how things really work, self sufficient, and happy in their personal lives.

Now THAT was EXCITING!

But... I just don't like most of these bands. And I NEVER got the whole Burden Bros. thing. EVER. I saw them in Austin at SXSW years ago and it was the most embarrassing spectacle ever... they just looked old, sad, and desperate. And the music wasn't even good. I don't get it at all. In other news, I am so psyched about the two Dallas bands on the grammy pre-nom ballot thing. If either of them get some good attention from that, maybe it could really jump-start the scene again. And if the Dallas POPO did something about the car-raiding thives in Deep Ellum... my God, Laura Miller's reign of terror would almost be reversed!
