I like what mom does musically. I also like how they market themselves. They are playing all kinds of different places to different crowds, just trying to get their shit out there, and it pays off in record sales. More bands from this area should do that. Don't just preach to the choir...go out and shake things up.

mom is much better than the books

a couple customers ("suckers") told me about this discussion today while at the store, so I thought I'd chime in.

'little brite' has been out for 6 months as of last week.
about 900 copies have been purchased in dallas at good records, recycled and strawberry in denton...and at shows out and about.

not bad, really.

why do people like 12:24 get so upset when a local band actually does well at home? especially a band that doesn't suck?

Not bad?? Thats incredible!

yeah, it's really good marketing to work in the store...

"ooo check out my band"

Yeah, bands that sell albums are lame. especially if they're local. I'm usually quicker to label a band lame if they are just starting out and are local. I'm also really concerned with other people's opinions.

Id be happy if my local band sold as well as Mom. But it doesn't. Maybe... more myspace friends??? Play more shows? HOW DO WE DO IT?

When I saw the Books I figured out what it was Mom was trying to do

does merch dude man the booths at the shows? That is one problem, the band is too busy packing gear to be at the merch table as the set ends and take advantage of the moment. And unlike Mom, many bands' music doesn't appeal to their girfriends or Moms, so they aren't at the shows to help.

man i wish my mom would come to my shows more often! she's too busy hangin out at HOB.

why's everyone so butt-hurt about frequencies in the air. is it not fun to play music on stage--or sell records at a record store-- or get free beer when you play? People keep referencing The Books which is what CD world told you-- Go to a real record store.

Give them a break, I bet your band probably sounds like something else too... probably the beatles,

everyone's gotta start somewhere. at least they've started.

My favorite part about the whole weshotjr blog-blah-blah, is everyone puts in their two cents with their trendy-indie anonymous tag.. stick up for what you say at least.
