It List: Tuesday

Disqo Disco (Fallout Lounge)

Retribution Gospel Choir/RTB2/Daniel Folmer (The Cavern):
Retribution Gospel Choir features Alan Sparhawk of Low, and this band sounds enough like his former group that you might feel compelled enough to check this out if you're a big fan. Unfortunately it resembles Low's last record more than their earlier and superiorly mopey phase. They mix in some borderline experimental instrumental passages of distorted bass and drums with dub textures. I'd give this at least one shot live, though it sounds as though Mimi Parker's vocals will be missed.

sometimes when a semi-famous person has a new band, that person might need help drawing attention to said new band. a good local opener with some sort of following might help but instead, spune asks two buddies to open the show and lo and behold: nobody goes. nobody outside of banter or art six really knows or gives a shit who rtb2 or dan folmer is, especially not in dallas. spune would have been better off asking crash that fucking took me for crying out loud. the fact that rtb2 has played the loft is another laughable example of dfw nepotism and friends in high places. something tells me you can thank that nancy schmancy bitch for that. whoever hired that monster to promote anything really has their had up their ass. I think helping out your friend's bands is fine, just make sure you find that right balance and ask a band that can actually draw at least twenty. ask two such bands and you have the cavern, packed on a tuesday night and the dude from low isn't cursing dallas on the way to the next town.

you people should hire me a consultant to save your clueless asses from drowning in your shiner bock.

yes, i know schmancy isn't doing the loft anymore. and I meant to say HEAD up their ass, though "head up his or her ass" is grammatically correct.

SPUNE sucks--no fucking question about that. They do get some good shows every now and then, but other than that they're responsible for booking way too many clubs in the Metroplex. Their calendars are filled with the most generic no name local and touring bands, and they don't know how put together a decent interesting line-up to save their lives. And why are things like SPUNE, Gutterth, and Department of Concern even necessary on a local level? If you really need help booking shows at the Cavern or Rubber Gloves so that you can play to the same amount of people as you would if you had set up the show yourself, chances are your music sucks.

sounds like there would have been a better turnout if Sparhawk played episode XVIVXC at J & Js

yeah, well schmancy has shot her mouth off one too many times about shit she knows nothing about so stab away, tuff guy.

the cavern downstairs doesn't suck THAT bad. i have heard that SPUNE books their friends too much. why the fuck were those shitty acts opening for alan's new band anyway? SPUNE sucks more than the cavern, and i agree with most of these comments. i don't know nancy schmancy. i'm sure lance from spune checks this shit out and HE should answer for his trespasses!!!

All good local bands need to boycott SPUNE shows. Don't play them and don't be flattered if they ask you. They probably just need to fill the opening slot for the Wednesday night show with that band from Oklahoma you've never heard of.

that is stupid. Spune books some good shows.
the cavern is just notorious for small crowds.
