It List: Sunday 4/30/06

1. Islands/Why?/Cadence Weapon (Hailey's Denton): Islands has put out one of the best records of 2006 so far, and although I have seen two Unicorns performances, one great and one not so great, I'm really looking forward to this show because I think they've really improved as a band. I'm not sure if I'm really that into Why?, but I'm willing to give it a shot. Cadence Weapon sounds interesting, and has earned some pretty good reviews of his latest mixtape. This will probably be a really fun show.

2. Laptop Deathmatch (Doublewide): You probably know what this is about already, but before you go you can stop by The Cavern and see Teenage Symphony opening for The Pit That Became a Tower and American Werewolf Academy. Um, AWA is blah blah blah I don't care boring and the Tower band is a sort of decent indie pop act, and the fact that they are from Israel and take manger scene pictures in the holy land is kind of funny I guess. So go see Teenage Symphony, possibly stick around for Tower, and then go to Doublewide to see some interesting local electronic performers block rock some beats. That would be our advice.

Have yet to figure out what I feel about Islands.. Spent way too much money on records today in Dallas. Can't afford this show.

I hope it's as good as you want it to be.

hmmm... did their performance suck? If so, I wouldn't be shocked, considering I saw a pretty bad Unicorns show a couple years ago. Love the album though.

so wait.... are Islands and the Unicorns the same???? name change i was unaware of?

....i saw the unicorns, Arcade Fire opened.... i didn't stay for the full unicorns set and they are who i came to see play (arcade fire didn't have their most recent album out yet)..... Arcade Fire blew me away and the unicorns were just obnoxious.....

like, if they stopped blabbering it would have been better... but it only would have been worth seeing if the croud would have spent less time yelling for "i was born a unicorn" and more time noticing that they had ALREADY PLAYED IT

their performance wasn't necessarily bad, they just seemed sort of like a crappy band

from behind the bar, it was a great set. the sound was phenomenal (much better than when i massacred the sound for the unicorns last summer).

the set was a little long but the performance really was quite good. i really wasn't expecting strings and keys and horns and such.
