The Big Undoing

Just to let you know, the Undoing of David Wright will NOT be playing at Hailey's tomorrow night.... somehow the dates got mixed up. Instead they will be playing a show at their home base, the 8th Continent, this Friday the 19th with Zom Zoms and Austin's Cry Blood Apache (whom the Undoing consider to be one of the best bands in Texas right now, if I'm not mistaken).

It would probably be a great show anyway, but in addition to the line up, it will also be an unusal show for the Undoing in that they will be playing many of their songs for the first and last time, at least in the near future. Some of the songs on their debut record require acoustic drums, but they pretty much never play them because they don't have a live drummer. Well, on Friday, Matt from Eat Avery's Bones will be playing drums with them, giving them a chance to play some of these songs for the first time ever. It will also be the last time that most of you will have a chance to see them play these and any of the other songs off their first record because after Friday's show they will largely stop playing songs from their first album live and will instead focus on new stuff that will featured on their new album, which will also be titled the 8th Continent. All the songs will be played in the narrative order that they appear on the album, and the band ecourages people to dress up like "19th century grave robbers, prostitutes, medical students, street denizens, bar patrons, etc.," because they will be filming the concert for a possible live DVD release. Sounds like the place to be on a Friday night.

the directions, best i know them are this:

from dallas: 35 east which heads north to denton... exit hwy 77 which becomes bell, which becomes mingo (this might be mixed up, but either way you just stay on what used to be 77).... eventually you see a train track on the right and residences on the left... the 8th continent is located on a street called Texas but it's right on the road you've been traveling on (to your Left).... it's pretty easy to find, especially w/ the cars that will be parked out there.

but the garage (or basement, it's below the house but above ground, at least on the side you're on) is black w/ a large red door. also, in red letters it says "the 8th continent".

...if you're in denton, then i'm unsure of exact directions, but you can just take 77/bell/mingo north and you should end up there.

Nu Metal (which includes rap metal) died when all the rap/nu metalers got "hardcore". And introducing...A Dozen Furies. The Undoing of David Wright do not fit anywhere into this equation.

and i'm not so sure i'd complain if i went to a UDODW show, saw them rip shit up and then was magically transported to a Judas Priest show.... i mean, i'm not all that into Judas Priest, but if i blacked out and got in for free... i might as well rock the fuck out.

better than whitesnake (for both musical and pyrotechnical reasons)

Isn't the undoing thing getting kind od old? I mean yeah the schtick is funny the first time or two you see it. Now it's just boring. They try to hard to be "out there". But hey the teenager that hates the world will feel good about being so 'original'.

so, you saw the show at hailey's and assume that this is all the band is about?

are they willing to say "fuck you!"? Yes. but that's NOT their schtick.

...i mean, yeah. they use theatrics but i seriously doubt anyone posting anything about how "angry" they are has actually spoken w/ any of them or seen a show where they are playing to a good sized group of people who came there to see THEM. it's a very different experience than some random show they got stuck on.

pluss, the show tonight is supposed to usher in their NEW shit, which will probably involve new "schtick". they are young and they are growing together as a band.

and as for the anger. maybe it's there but i don't consider any of the members to be truly angry people. they are some of the nicest and easiest to talk to bands from the area.

don't let the look fool you.

I will have to agree with Lars about the dumb 90's anti-image attitude that a lot of people have held on to ever since they heard their first Pavement song.

I believe that this most unfortunate criticism directed towards the Undoing of David Wright is completely unfounded. I can assure you that the lads in the Undoing are aware but not involved in scene politics. Nor, are they trite. It seems to be that most of this half-tossed, vulgar criticism stems from jealousy. For who can honestly deny that the Undoing is nothing less than passionate about art? Their commitment is worthy of praise. We all know that they will be legend. Shouldn’t we rejoice in our fellow citizen’s achievements as opposed to destroy them for the very thing that makes them unique?

..i'd love to hear what bands the anon. poster who keeps talking shit on here (i can only guess it's just ONE) listens to.

posting about anger while bitching incessantly w/o bothering to justify your stance.

...who's really angry here?

is it (a) the band who gets to play for a fairly rabid audience on a consistent basis, or (b) the random blog poster who appears too stoned (often guilty myself) or confused about the direction of his/her belittling comments?

hmmm.
the scale seems a stacked in your direction misguided poster.

i was the first david wright bashing anon...

my 3 favorite bands are the zombies, the beach boys, and the beatles

and i guess that probably makes me sound like a poor judge of the undoing, but like i know my shit somewhat

when i was younger i listened to bands that i'm sure influenced the undoing of david wright, like, big black, ministry, etc.

but when i hear them all i can think of his how much the sound like a nu metal band who missed the ship by like 8 years.
