It List: Friday 5/19/06

Sorry, we're running a bit late today. We figure that many of you will be watching the Mavs game anyway. We're gonna take em down tonight, I can feel it:

1. Undoing of David Wright/Zom Zoms/Cry Blood Apache (8th Continent): We gave you the deal on this yesterday. Should be a really good show.

2. Theater Fire (Good Records in store, 7pm): Yeah, we know they're playing at The Cavern later as well, but I would suggest seeing them for free with free beer. Just a thought.

3. Ghostland Observatory/ Black Angels/ Prayer for Animals (Rubber Gloves)

4. Oh, and the motherfuckin' Violent Femmes are playing at Gilley's. We love the Femmes, but be on the lookout for Gen X soccer moms.

I wanted to go to the Prayer for Animals/Black Angels show tonight, but didn't feel like driving to Denton. So I was going to go see The Dicks and Tame Tame and Quiet at the Wreck Room. Then I fell asleep during half time. I'm a douche. But I hope all was well in Rock Town. I know the Mavs final was a bummer. Quite a bummer. Well, I must still be sleeping.

Sorry you didn't dig the show, Will. Did it have anything to do with sound quality or do you just not dig the bands? If it's the latter, you know not to come out for the 4th time. It was a great turnout, the bands all had a good time and Prayer for Animals & Black Angels changed up their play lists, so lots of new material was put out there. Ghostland is a totally different experience, either you love 'em or hate 'em, it seems. Judging by the amount of dancing & some folks that drove all the way from Austin, they're getting a lot of love. Thanks to everyone who made it out! It was a fun show, with bands I adore personally & musically, so it inspires me to keep doing what I do. Cheers!

nah, it definitely wasn't the sound quality. the angels just kinda let me down. but if i'm the only one who thinks that they've gotten worse recently, I'll pipe down.

lots of other people seemed to be having fun, though!

Will,

Man, I just don't see the point in ripping on a band like "the black angels". It just seems like such obvious "backlash" towards a band that is getting a lot of buzz and doing well. They have a great sound and play solid shows - sure, some are better than others, but thats the case with everyone.. Yes EVEN (dare i saw it) the Strange Boys. Also, Darkside Lounge happens to have the worst sound in Dallas and a soundguy who looks utterly confused and scared during every set I have seen there... I'm just saying I don't see the point in going after good bands. Go rip some more on Black Tie... please.. I will be right there with ya.

yeah, we were a little skeptical about recommending that band, but thought maybe they would be fun to see live. Guess we should have known that they sucked when Texas Gigs did an interview with them.
