The Polysics played The Door last year or the year before.
Funny story: I saw Bryce open for Idlewild at Trees a few years ago. The line-up? Him, a drummer and a DAT machine playing backing tracks.

Polysics played The Door because it SXSW time and everywhere was booked. I wanted to see that show, but Serena Maneesh was pl,aying that night along with 6 other really good shows at 6 other venues. Busy night. The year before when they came through for SXSW they played Club DADA. Another unlikely venue for them.

A lot of folks around here also have roots in the early/mid-90's
mid-cities god rock scene.
I find that more excusable than being presently Secret Jesus.

Yeah, Lift to Experience was a very complex and chaotic gust of conflicted emotions, and stream of consiousness vocals. So far from the refined pop "perfection" of this kid. Really, any comparison is ridiculous.

hmm....i guess the world of independent music blogs is just as closed-minded as any other. it's 'cool' and safe to be an indie-rockin' agnostic, but being a christian is uncool i suppose. this is patently ridiculous. danielson famile played at the door and i'm pretty sure daniel smith's new one is about as good as it gets, christian or not....
like i said, strident zend, and geoff johnston is a hoser. ja!!

what would secret Jesus do?
i dunno. i havent listened to rocket summer but i would probably hate it. but there are some excellent "secret jesus" bands arent secretive about jesus, but dont preach from the stage. and i like it like that. i like for artists to incorporate what they believe into their art. Sufjan Stevens, Danielson Famile, Fishboy, Half-Handed Cloud, Lift To Experience, Bosque Brown, Soul Junk, Joseph Arthur, Pedro the Lion, John Vanderslice all take up with artists like Johnny Cash, Nick cave, Leonard Cohen, Sam Cooke, Blind Willie McTell, John Coltrane, lots of old country, blues and soul singers, who are christians, but also real musicians.
they ARE allowed to act like they've really chilled out about the whole thing. I mean, have you ever talked to a new vegetarian that doesnt try to ruin thanksgiving dinner? people are fucked up. even if they have found god.
also, dont get me started on the number of rap artists that give shout-outs to god in their liner notes.

More Lift to Experience: WHERE IS PEARSON? He has a MySpace page now but won't respond. Hasnt been seen much if an all in these parts of late. LTE was some of the most messed-up amazing pompous/brillaince ever. Also last time I saw Andy he had lost a hundred pounds and a couple chins. Perhaps due to ... influence?
