Happy Birthday Merica, mkay?
Saw about half of the well attended Strategies of Beauty fest last night, and enjoyed it quite a bit for the most part. We're doing a review on it and stuff, but several members of the WSJR crew are out of town today, which means that we'll have to continue with regularly scheduled programming (including the review) on Wednesday....
and by the way, anyone that didn't stick around for Notes from Underground's finale set last night really missed out.... they completely killed, and have got to be one of the best local live bands that I've seen this year.
And despite blowing out a fucking amp, Nature and Select's set at Monkey Bar on Friday was completely fucking on all night. There was a HUGE and diverse crowd in attendance (the biggest I've ever seen at that place) that consisted of punk rock kids, hipsters, the house crowd, art girls, strippers (or girls that at least looked like strippers), uptown preps, the hip hop set, any other person that you can slap a label on and everyone else in between. Good times for pretty much anyone that isn't completely lame.
