I try to make interesting events for overlooked artists to express themselves and audiences with more eclectic tastes to enjoy. I don't have to. I want to. I never talk shit about any band. I keep to myself and try my best not to step on anyones toes. So give me one reason why I am a douche. Maybe your just another one of those racist indie kids I keep running into as of late. All I do is work on my art and help others get their art exposed. What did I do to you? I should not even respond to this shit, but I really am quite baffled. There are plenty of bands around here that do go around talking shit and spreading evil gossip. Why don't pick on them?

figures. I have not been harrassed this much since I used to go to slipped disk and common ground almost a decade and a half ago. I actually got jumped by skinheads at a Fugazi show of all places. It was on their second tour and first time through Dallas. Back when those nazi fucks were all over Deep Ellum. It is interesting how a lot of the younger indie kids really have no idea how bad things used to be around here when the confederate hammer skins were everywhere. I doubt things will get that bad again, but I have been getting harrased a lot more this year. I actually heard some shitty redneck band talking about "those dumb niggers" at my rehearsal space just last week as I was passing their door. I made sure they saw me walk by. I blame the general conservative shift of the country that has been going on since a certain warmonger took office. I really hope things start shifting back the other direction after the midterm elections. In the meaNTIME PEOPLE NEED TO GATHER AND FOLLOW THE GREAT WORDS OF Mr Chuck D......"FIGHT THE POWER".

actually my gigs are selfish and self indulgent(kinda sarcasm). The other local promoters really don't put together shows I would like to see. So I put together shows that I would like to see. Laptop Deathmatch is a blast. If I don't make it happen it does not happen. For the most part most local promoters have very narrow tastes in music and it comes across in the booking style. That is not necessarily bad, but there should be options for people with a wider range of tastes. In this day and age of the internet and downloading there are plenty of people that dig a wider range of sstuff. Heavy shit like Slayer, pop stuff like Scott Walker and weirdo elctronic shit like Kid 606. These people need shows too.
So yeah. My gigs are very selfish(not really). I like to see good shows. So I make those shows happen. So sue me. I don't think I am alone in this sentiment.
Maybe he booked Ahburne Glen because he couldn't find the ANONYMOUS band who so badly wants to be booked?

every other band on both nights were stellar. One poor choice in two nights is a lot better than most bills.

lots o questions. Here are the answers:
1.These are not tastemaker events. They are supposed to encourage unity in the scene. To get bands that normally would not play together to play a show together. To get outside of the clicks and Politics and make a good well rounded show happen. Bills with something for everyone.
2. Believe it or not some people actually like Ashburne Glen. They are not flashy or groundbreaking. They are certainly not noisy or avant anything. Just a pretty good rock music. They are really good guys and I dug 'em. They are far from suck. If you want to see truly shit bands go to Curtain Club(I'm not naming names). You may redefine your standard of suck.
3. I was considering doing going back into booking fulltime, but I think throwing these shindigs every now and then will be far more productive and keep the events special.
4. to mr 11:12 anon. I apoligize for defending myself, buit I don't like to take shit from anyone when it is not desreved. It's funyy how according to this jerk I am some kind of asshole, but no one has actually brought up one thing that I have ever done to make me an douche outside of being frustrated. I think Ashburne Glen is actually quite good compared to most of the bands from Dallas. And also, from many other places.
And Wanz, I'll name some crappy bands just because some people do need to know what the real garbage is around here:
The Feds, Drowning Pool, Mayta, Mad Mexicans, Mandatory, Pimpadelic, etc.
And that's just the obivious stuff. There's also the stuff that people try to make you think is cool. And maybe that's what Ashburne Glen is being accused of, but I think they are far from being The Hourly Radio or Blackheart Society.

I think you have a point about Ashburne Glen not being one of the bands that the Dallas establishment tries to shove down peoples throats as a "hip" band.
there are decent and terrible bands in every town... but the ones that should truly be called out are the ones that act like they're Lou Reed because they play pop punk covers of Dandy Warhol songs, or list My Bloody Valentine as an influence on their Myspace page.

I think we've seen examples of all three on this thread. I know its easy to tell someone to not take an anon insult too seriously when they are the ones being insulted, but those posts are only as meaningful as you allow them to be.

This has been an interesting scientific experiment into the brains of bored people. A blog post which had nothing whatsoever to do with the 71 (for now)comments long thread which followed it. So there really could have been no blog posting and as long as there was a screen and a place to post someone would have posted something. Which is all a long drawn out way of saying that some people have too much time on their hands and nothing to say.

I love the anonymous comments, because criticism is good for everybody. And VERY FEW PEOPLE are man enough to criticize you to your face. So how else does a brother get feedback? The anonymous thing is basically like secret baloting. The honesty of the comment is preserved along with the identity. If it's a dumb-shit comment, then who cares anyway? Most likely, there is some valid criticism amongst the hatin'.
