It List: Sunday 9/3/06

One thing going tonight:

Wild in The Streets @ Hailey's: here is what is going down tonight:

In a bit of last-minute news, I'll be joined in the booth at Hailey's this evening by Chad of Denton's new, cool music/book/video store Strawberry Fields. The store's great, and all the employees are nice and knowledgeable. Here's a little info on what they've got up their subversive sleeves:

Specalizing in media that your parents warned you about and what your uncle secretly stashes underneath his bed, Strawberry Fields is here to provide you with media dealing with counter culture, activisim, arts, alternative lifestyles, trash, left of center, shlock, radical, queer, erotic, artsy, fartsy, artsy-fartsy, forgotten, hidden, recently recovered, activism and what ever else you can think of that they dont sell at Barnes and Nobles.

So come out and dance/drink to some good music (60's & beyond garage, international pop, soul, soundtracks, instrumentals & more) ... some of us (ahem) don't have to work tomorrow, which is definitely cause to celebrate! No cover for 21 & up; $2 wells and domestics. 10p-2a.

Should be good times on your extra night of fun. Thats all. We're going to have a ton of stuff this week, so get ready.

I used to work at a barnes and noble, and this is like the third tear into B&N I've heard in the last few months. I understand they may not carry everything, but they will order anything that is in print.

So if you choose not to go Barnes and Noble, it should be to support local business, not because they wont get you something. I totally support that argument.

Barnes & Noble is the GeorgeWBush of bookstores... yer a salami if you shop there and a pimento if you work there

My incarcerated business partner's retarded gay niece works at Barnes & Noble and she never ever watches TV

books that are "in print" are for failed writers and grandmothers

if you want to read a real book, collect handwritten scraps of paper found in the Barnes & Noble parking-lot for the next year, staple them together and write your name at the top--an instant underground classic!

This is the way James Joyce wrote his first 12 novels (before he sold out to the black veined raptors of the publishing industry) I can't wait until his work goes outta print and returns to the art world. Ive heard (from an undistributed, unpublished literary rag) that his shit is pretty rad.

I didn't write the B&N reference either ... but in the Strawberry Fields guys' defense, I thought it was a just a figurative reference to large chain stores not readily stocking a wide variety of titles. & I know intelligent, well-read people who work there, no biggie, gotta have a job.
