I guess his life wasn't as fulfilled as I thought. Didn't know about his depression and suicide attempts. Sorry about the last posts. I still think he would have made a great Grandfather....someone to tell you great stories all the time. R.I.P. Kurt Vonnegut.
“Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you’ve got about a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies — ‘God damn it, you’ve got to be kind.’ ”
I was lucky enough to meet this man at an all-girls school he was teaching at several years ago. He gave really grumpy answers to silly freshman questions regarding "Slaughterhouse Five" but was nice enough to me and kept calling me "Tex". I was in awe. "Palm Sunday" is my favorite.
I like his cameo's in Back to School and Good Will Hunting. I don't care if a lot of people hate Good Will Hunting either. I like it. He makes a good (Boston) judge.
Yes, this planet is in a terrible mess. But it has always been a mess. There have never been any "Good Old Days," there have just been days. And as I say to my grandchildren, "Don't look at me, I just got here."
kurt vonnegut threatened to cause bodily harm to geraldo rivera after geraldo cheated on his then-wife who also happened to be edith vonnegut, kurt's daughter.
"The most important thing I learned on Tralfamadore was that when a person dies he only appears to die. He is still very much alive in the past, so it is very silly for people to cry at his funeral. All moments, past, present and future, always have existed, always will exist. The Tralfamadorians can look at all the different moments just that way we can look at a stretch of the Rocky Mountains, for instance. They can see how permanent all the moments are, and they can look at any moment that interests them. It is just an illusion we have here on Earth that one moment follows another one, like beads on a string, and that once a moment is gone it is gone forever."

Good point. I will miss him, but I don't think he ever wanted to be an old fart anyway... smart people never do.
weird that it happened while i was in the middle of one his books.
"so it goes."
I seems like he lived a pretty long, fulfilling life. He would have made a cool Grampa.

But much in his life was traumatic, and left him in pain.

well really, you wouldn't have expected a guy that built a motif out of death, pain, and pessimism to be depressed?
Kurt Vonnegut shaped my sense of humor.
"life is a crock of shit"
His interviews and public speaking were 1000 times better than anything he ever wrote.
kurt vonnegut threatened to cause bodily harm to geraldo rivera after geraldo cheated on his then-wife who also happened to be edith vonnegut, kurt's daughter.
awesome.
Sadly, the Old Guard is falling down...Hunter Thompson, Vonnegut...
Gore Vidal, Norman Mailer: your days are numbered.
God bless you Mr. Vonnegut
I donmt see the big deal with vonnegut, they play crappy musics. the singer is a tool.
