We Shot A Mix Vol. 3: Stereo on Strike
We're happy to present the third installment of our We Shot A Mix series, and I should tell you-- this might just be the best one yet. As we pointed out the other day, Stereo on Strike is the new DJ crew formed by Wanz Dover, and he was nice enough to put this thing together for us. I won't bore you with the details except to say that the track list is stellar and the mixing is flawless. The whole thing was mixed completely live too, which is something you'll appreciate even more once you hear it. Enjoy.

update! the observer music section just got even more irrelevant. full page on some touring lesbian zep cover band and two full pages on something called she-dick. not even sure if they actually play music or not.
And, I shit you not, if you look at the music listings toward the back, they are listing shows that happened TWO years ago. Look at this Saturday... Rock Lottery 6. They even list Mabel Peabody's... Witch burned down 6 months ago. Literally took the calender from TWO YEARS ago and ran it again. This is after they said that Roky Erikson was playing the double-wide. They get at least one show wrong a week in their preview section. Last week was a great example when they advertised a touring band playing at Hailey's when the show was at Secret Headquarters. It all sounds pretty petty, but man... Shit is adding up EVERY week. I'm more and more glad for this blog everyday. Truly, it has turned into the ONLY current and reliable source of information on the N. texas Scene. And everybody is trying so hard, and there really is so much going on, and the Observer is fucking blowing it Big time. You know what else I just remembered? When we all first heard about Sam getting fired, and googled the new chick, I seem to remember that her early work was very, um, granola and ,uh, Lillith Fair... Now we get the Cross Dressing Joke Band and the Lez Zep shit all in one week? I'll take Sam over this shit ANY day...

If an artist being gay somehow makes it "irrelevant" than you are about as ignorant and disqusting as a human could be. Go eat a bucket of KFC and watch football you Goddamned hick. I hope you know some of the greatest writters, poets, musicians, filmakers and artists we have ever had were gay. You should be proud that our society (however slow it may be) is becoming open minded enough to display articles on openly gay musicians. That makes me proud. Wheither you like the band or not, how dare you mark them as "irrelevant" just because they are homosexuals.
I can only hope that in our future we will live in a nation that actually has equality. For gays, bisexuals, transgendered persons, people of different colors, people with different religious views, and the countless other victims of hate.
The bottom line is we are all living, breathing things, we all deserve the same rights.
And for God's sake, we are trying to create a better world for our children so if you are not fighting the good fight then get the hell out of my way.

yes... does anyone feel like talking about the mix? Because I think it's really good too. And I'm not trying to toot our horn for posting it...we ask people to make mixes, but what they do is entirely up to them. I'm as surprised by the mixes as anyone else.

the fact that the article is irrelevant has nothing to do with their sexuality. it's just a shame that instead of focusing on artists in the area who are writing, creating, & performing original music, that space is wasted on a cover band THAT TOURS.

Ditto on on the Observer. This is actually the second week in a row they wrote about that novelty cover band. I'd bet Jonanna wrote about them because it was the only show she's seen recently. Does anyone see her out, ever? I know most people on wsjr don't bother with it, but it's a shame that an area as big as D/FW/d has such an awful music section in its only alt-weekly. But...you can now leave comments on stories on the Observer Web site, in case you didn't know.

I find it incredibly silly to call a mix brilliant.
listen to the mix. Actually listen to it. I don't know about brilliant, but if you really pay attention to what is going on in the mix you can see that there is a craft to it.
A good mix brings out new textures in the music. Even rock bands tend to (usually) mix their music live and in the studio for this same purpose. Also, a good set list is just important to the rock band as a track list is to the producer. It is all about being able to move your audience emotionally with good music.
