It List: Tuesday

So help me out, DFW. Besides Disqo Disco with El Paso's DJ Czar, I kept finding a catch to every show I was going to post. I mean, I've been hearing about this "Minimal House" on Tuesdays, but then I discovered they were going to project anime along with the music tonight. I can't do that to you Dallas. I won't do that to you. Anime was never cool, and pairing it with dance music is feeding an age-old stereotype that is only fueling the inevitable detractors.

Then there was a show going on at another venue, but there was a pop punk band on the bill that I thought had broken up eleven years ago and I got a little depressed. They weren't even the headlining band (whatever that means) and they've been around forever. So I just couldn't bring myself to post the show.

Finally, there was a bigger act playing down the street but they were on Desoto Records. More often than not, that constitutes almost instant disqualification.

I was really flattered that our site was included in D Magazines's Best Of Big D 2008 issue. I even told my folks, which went something like this:

Dad: "So what I'm getting from this is that you're...feared and revered?"

DL: "I don't know, Dad. I wouldn't go that far."

You couldn't really tell by looking at his skeptical expression, but deep down inside I know he's really proud. So, I'd like to give a shout-out to, well, everyone. We can't do it without you. This was ten times better than SR getting nominated for "Best Music Advocate," an underhanded compliment if there ever was one.

I am the guest DJ tonight at Minime which is a minimal Techno night, not house. There is a differance. Slight, but definate. I am doing a 2 hour set from 11pm to 1am. I will be playing about half original tracks and half some of my favorite tracks. It will all be heavy on the experimental side of techno. Smoke a few joints before you come out. I am going deep tonight.

It's a few mo0nths old, but here is a link to my last techno mixtape:

http://www.zshare.net/audio/6603515a21d2c5

tracklist:
Fairmont - Red Planet
Efdemin - Knocking at the grand
Pantha du prince - saturn Strobe
Krakatoa - K1
Herve Ak - Serial X
Luciano & Quenum - Orange Mistake
TG - Cave The Speakers
Ricardo Villalobos - Primer Encuentro Latino-Americano
Kalabrese - Lose My Chair
Bruno pronsato - At home I'm a Tourist
Donnacha Costello - Black Bag Job

Anime is still cool and tonight I am showing Appleseed:Ex Machina which may possibly be the best anime ever made. Truly an awesome film. Of course not as cool as watching drunk indie kids in dated neon clothing flop around. What was I thinking....hehehehe.

that was a joke. You can laugh.

for a good example download the mix from the link I posted. It's 40 minute mix of some choice tracks from the genre. Hearing this music in public is pretty much non existent in this country outside of the west coast, Detroit and Miami. It seems to be finally getting a bit more interest as of late in this part of the planet. Ironically it kind of started in Detroit and blew up everywhere else on the planet. From Brazil to Berlin to Japan. Mexico City even has a huge scene where thousands of people are packing clubs getting down to pretty heady shit. It's truly experimental dance music. Generally much more in common with Brian Eno, Steve Reich and krautrock than the stuff you usually here in clubs around here.

i pray for the day, and it will be pretty chilly one in hades, when there isn't a single negative comment and we all agree on something unanimously.

i think it's much easier to agree on something we all hate, but what is it that we all like together?

pete, kyle, any thoughts?

I'd be willing to bet dollars to donuts that most of these anonymous armchair critics haven't even tried to get out there and contribute. Say what you will about Wanz/Blixa but he's very-active in the local scene. That means doing more than posting bravely on this inbred little comments section. But those OP shorts look totally rad in your bathroom mirror....

I think this blog and it's writers are just fine. It's the little kids in the comment section that kind of ruin it. I have a feeling that the writers would probably enjoy intelligent music disscussion over the childish name calling, but of course most people would probably stop reading the blog.

Rubbernecker = a guy/gal that frequents weshotjr comment section to see the carnage.

Hey you, out there in the cold
Getting lonely, getting old
Can you feel me?
Hey you, standing in the aisles
With itchy feet and fading smiles
Can you feel me?
Hey you, dont help them to bury the light
Dont give in without a fight.

Hey you, out there on your own
Sitting naked by the phone
Would you touch me?
Hey you, with you ear against the wall
Waiting for someone to call out
Would you touch me?
Hey you, would you help me to carry the stone?
Open your heart, Im coming home.

But it was only fantasy.
The wall was too high,
As you can see.
No matter how he tried,
He could not break free.
And the worms ate into his brain.

Hey you, standing in the road
Always doing what youre told,
Can you help me?
Hey you, out there beyond the wall,
Breaking bottles in the hall,
Can you help me?
Hey you, dont tell me theres no hope at all
Together we stand, divided we fall.

[click of tv being turned on]
Well, only got an hour of daylight left. better get started
Isnt it unsafe to travel at night?
Itll be a lot less safe to stay here. youre fathers gunna pick up our trail before long
Can loca ride?
Yeah, I can ride... magaret, time to go! margret, thank you for everything
Goodbye chenga
Goodbye miss ...
Ill be back
