It List: Thursday
Steel Hook Prostheses/Awen/The Watchers (Good Records): This totally un-Good Records birthday show kicks of at 9pm with the Watchers, a group consisting of Good Records' own Mark Church and two members of Zanzibar Snails. Arlington's SHP plays the kind of minimal, offensive, Whitehouse inspired power electronic noise that will scare loyal Dallas Observer readers almost as badly as your grandparents, and I really can't think of too many genres of music that scare anyone these days. It's pretty solid, truly evil stuff that mysteriously becomes somewhat serene and meditative the more you listen to it. And just as a bonus, it comes from one of the creepiest cities in the United States-- aside from being the largest US city without public transportation (everyone knows that already), Arlington is also the birthplace of the AMBER alert, and one of the best places to see the horrid results of dysfunctional, abandoned suburban sprawl post White Flight. Go south of 20 for a real city planning horror show. In this context, SHP's music makes a lot of sense. Not that I want to shit on Arlington all day, but I've earned the right to if I want. Trust me. Awen is another very interesting local group that I really haven't heard much about until today (somehow). However, I'd highly recommend stopping by their Myspace some of their strangely theatrical tracks. Good stuff.
Select/Billingham's Defense System (Fallout Lounge): Select will be joining Billingham's tonight for their weekly.

shit away, arlington fucking sucks.
see i'm from arlington and i'm not offended or nothing, i mean you're talking about a city and an inanimate object which is truly of no reflection to the residence, but i just can't imagine someone being a real fan of modern culture without thinking of arlington as a goldmine, come on down off you high loft and roll around in the modern condition, it's so beautifully lit and themed
Yeah, I know what you mean for sure, and I think my comment reflects a similar sentiment with a slightly different tone.
that's good cause mine could used one
fire those duds away
nice writin' toned flanger, it's nice when you hit...
also, why is it that everytime some fag like c.polack gets burnt extra-crispy, they always feel the need to beg and plead for the burner's IP address?
can't take the heat? then get the fuck off wsjr, FAG!
AWEN: THE GOTH WIL WHEATON OF NOISE
Blue Hit at the Boiler Room (yeah, the Boiler Room isn't as bad as some think!)
God I fucking hate the boiler room.
And fuck you fungi girls
God I fucking love the boiler room.
I received some nice OG Kush there.
You better not be frontin' about that kush at the boiler room. Actually, I don't believe you received any kush or even went to the boiler room faggot.
I personally don't feel weed to be a social drug. I like weed when I am:
A. Watching movies
B. Playing music
C. Playing video games
I think it enhances personal experiences, but doesn't really do anything for me when I am socializing. Just my opinion.
Also I am from Arlington and "one of the creepiest cities in the U.S." ? Come on man..maybe one of the most boring, but thats about it. I have lived here for a while and have yet to be creeped out by anything here. The only thing bad about Arlington is that it lacks a real culture or any kind of a youthful liveliness. At least one that I can buy into. Its a suburb like every other suburb. And when you start talking south of 20 you're getting close to Mansfield. Unless you think TCC SE is creepy? I'm way more creeped out in south dallas. Only reason there is no public transportation is because the wealthy people in Arlington want the poor to leave. I imagine that might change due to the stadium. I also imagine Arlington will be much more metropolitan in the years to come.
is arlington paranormal?
im NOT SHITTING YOU MAN! i received some OG Kush at the boiler room alommg with some Warewolf and some purple erkle. But those strains are common there.

Yes, Mr. big bad man, whatever you say...
nah see i've been tellin folks that over the past few months, when i moved to arlington as a wee lil it was a suburb, the suburb of the metro but a suburb none the less, now i feel arlington is a city, ok so take the renowned fact of it's size/public transport ratio (this comin from someone who uses their feet r a board) the primary reason behind that lack of is that arlington has no downtown, it does, didn't know of it myself till i was 18 though! why you ask, we're head to toe with shopping, shopping which is probably the modern number 1 past time, now that doesn't seem to be lacking culture, i mean unless culture to you is some traditional sense ofthe word a musuem or architecture, which don't get me wrong i o enjoy the finer things, but there's no piece i can't admire through the internet these days and there's no musuem more interesting than an arcade, true night light is rather seperated as in arlington most people tend to keep to their owns, but look at it this way, we all get around, but how do you spend you free time? mines two are drums and semiotics and i got all the time in the world to get real good at em
ps. i like weed to and it does make good fuel for 'alone time', but to tell you the truth ijust can't help it, my mouth is a motherfucking chatterbox second hit in
much deserved love for the steel hook, one of the best groups in the area, unknown or not. Maybe even THE best. They are awesome and they were awesome last night. Thanks to Awen too and to Good for hosting a fun night that wouldn't have really worked as well anywhere else in Dallas that I can think of.
also if you left w/ my Sound Projector mag pls return. thx.
found projector. thx.
