The Mix CD

Just to let everyone know: the first We Shot J.R. Mix CD, which we are currently putting together with the Dconstruction guys, will be released as a free download on both sites next week. I've been listening to it for a while now, and it sounds really great. Hope everyone digs it.

You know what would make a good mix CD? A bunch of talented local bands covering each chapter of Our Band Could Be Your Life, in order front to back... Or we could just throw a show...

I feel sorry for whoever has to try to play guitar in the Dinosaur Jr. band... but that sounds like a lot of fun. Great book too.

But if this was a bulletin board, I would have to call you on the threadjack!

can we get a little info on the cd or is it just gonna be one of those "you'll just have to wait and see" things?

like, it is all local bands, right?
all tracks currently released (obviously, it's doubtful that anyone wrote a song specificaly for this occation, but maybe it's not yet released or something)???

uhh, oh, and how many songs?

...........
oh, and this "Our Band Could Be Your Life" thing sounds kinda cool..... probably one of the most random things i've ever heard of (This month "Our Band..." next week, "To Kill a Mockingbird")

i guess my only concern w/ this idea is that, in dallas/denton they have probably sold more copies of CDs by the bands playing in the benefit than they have the book the whole thing is based off of.

I don't want to reveal too much about it right now, but I will say that its all local, and that there is a mix of new songs (perhaps a couple unreleased), newish songs, and relatively older songs that we just happen to like.

Listening to it is truly more fun than even I thought it would be, and I'm the one that put it together.... so I think most people will enjoy it.

Speaking of compilation cd's, The Lollipop Shoppe is going to be putting a comp cd out next month featuring some great local music as well. You'll be able to get them at our Benefit Show at Double Wide (Oct.20th) but you can check our myspace page for details. I'm not trying to threadjack whatsoever. (But if you're reading this and you're a band whose played at our events please turn your mp3's in soon!)
Looking forward to your mystery compilation Stonedranger.

After reading an article in this mornings DMN, an article that talks about one more Christian nationalist on the air waves and running for office, it would be kinda cool to have bands do a compilation of songs that calls to action some of the apathetic young voters during this midterm election cycle.

That's my two ruppes worth of advice. I'll stop now.

Re: OBCBYB, Butthole Surfers is actually BAPTIST GENERALS, not just Chris Flemmons....

For anyone interested The Goods are returning again this halloween. This will be my 7th year doing the Nick Tribute. But this year there is a twist. We are doing half Birthday Party(no bad seeds)/Half Scratch Acid. The Line up this year is me(Wanz), Aaron Gonzales(Unconscious Collective, Yells at Eels), Will Kapinos (Jetscreamer) and Ben Burt(Jack With One Eye,The Falkon and Brutal Juice). We are all huge Scratch Acid fans and 3 of us went to the show together. The only confirmed show is October 21st for The Lost Generation Halloween show. The rest of the line up for that night is pretty ridiculous so get ready to get spooked. Too bad Scrath Acid does not have a chapter in "Our Band coud be your Life".

Thanks for the info on the Zac Crain benefit CD.

And, yeah, it's a bit late to affect much change this election cycle. It's just that the article in today's DMN on Dan Patrick had me riled.

The revolution starts...

I saw adub and virden making out the other day. I think all of the internet angst makes it more passionate!

So the only thing that goes on in Denton are fake cowboys making out with each other?

Kinda like an Austin that's afraid to go out in public. :)

real cowboys are rather anticlimatic
