The fire marshall gave us a fine "Merry Christmas" today at the metrognome collective. More details will be announced, but you can look at www.metrognome.org for more details.
It looks like we need a venue to have our first anniversary celebration and fundraiser on January 6. Anyone want to volunteer?
Basically the wheels of bureaucracy turn, slowly but inexorably. The building we are in is old and was not designed with many of the features now required in fire code, some of the doors open the wrong direction, we don't have a sprinkler system, etc. We have been applying for our certificate of occupancy since we took over the building this summer, and finally got our first building inspector to come out. That inspector notified the fire marshall that we have been operating in a space without a C.O. and the fire marshall came out and shut us down. Its not entirely a surprise, it is all part of the process of trying to do things legally, without buckets of money, but it is obviously a disappointment, and a source of frustration. Essentially the problem is we couldnt find out what changes the city needed us to make until the inspectors came out to tell us, and when they came out to tell us they decided to shut us down until we can make the changes that they havent asked for yet. We are still waiting for that list of changes. Hopefully the situation will be resolved quickly and will someday be an amusing trivia fact in our extensive wikipedia article.
hopefully they ARE happy, it hasnt come down to fisticuffs yet, by any means. they just want to see that we are doing our best to negotiate the labyrinth halls of bureaucracy, and that we will kow-tow to the right people. I think we have the press, the neighborhood association, and the fort worth arts council on our side, so if it comes down to a war we will wage it, but we would much rather peacefully resolve the matter.
yeah i am a dork. i actually like that about myself.

james=dork. Oooooooooo sarah reddington. Jeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzz!
Shit. You'd think the city would be happy that someone not involved in the crack market is trying to run a business in that part of town.
