It List: Monday 1/29/07

Not a lot going on as you might guess, but if you Dallasites who didn't make it up to Denton this weekend would like to see what Chris Garver is all about, I would recommend stopping by Club Dada early (around 8pm) to check out what I'm assuming will be a solo set from him.

After that, theres Bad Ass Jazz @ The Amsterdam, like you didn't already know.

And we were wondering if anyone had any decent pictures from the show on Friday... we've got some, but they didn't turn out very good for some reason. If you have some and you'd like to share, email weshotjr@yahoo.com, would you?

Good stuff coming this week, so stay tuned.

Yeah whats up with that? How does her band headline for a show with Chris Garver, and Dana Falconberry? Doesn't make sense.

The process: Dodo Bird's agent asks for a show, through me. I secure Dada to host it. Being that they're both connected to Peter and the Wolf, I ask Dana Falconberry to play with him. She accepted & coincidentally played with Dodo Bird earlier this year, in California. I then asked Chris Garver, who mentioned he was really liked Dana's work, so to keep the synergy going, I placed him before her. Lastly, Dodo Bird, didn't necessarily want to headline. I asked around & a lot of bands/acts turned up their nose to playing a show on a Monday. Ramonalisas was one of the acts I asked & they gladly accepted. Whether you like them or not, the show flows in a way you can come early or later to see/avoid who you want. Hope that clears things up. It's not a Dada show, it's a Callithump show & I stand by it.

chris garver opening for tania. dallas is a fucking travesty.

rich! thanks for the head's up! ....still on principle, that tania chick should NOT get booked. Does she give a killer blow job or what? nobody will lay claim to actually liking her, yet she gets shows, and drops names.

Rest In Peace Chris Foley.
One of the old Denton Space Rock pioneers, and guitarist for Transona 5.
It's a sad day.

6:27 PM,

hear hear! I only got to stop in for a split second (dogs, impatient) but I really enjoyed the dodo set. A monday night show is hard to come by, much less in DEEP ELLUM, so I'm thankful as a resident for being able to stumble upon an awesome set by duh DODO's. (that was for you carlin).

A big disrepectful fuck you anonymous. That was just bad taste. If anyone can elaborate or knows exactly what happened to Chris Foley please contact me immediately. I would really like to know when, how or if he has passed away. He was a friend that I have not seen in years.

I agree w/ the above statement. Anyone who's played a few shows figures out pretty quick that the headlining spot is the worst slot on the bill.

I'm tired of people commenting on female musicians "sucking dick" to "make it" like that's it's a bad thing.
Your posts should be in green type you envious, ugly people.
First of all - if I were in a position of power I would gladly be "satisfied" by some female wanting to get booked, signed or just wanting some free booze or drugs. Damn.
Secondly, if I were an attractive female I would totally do it. It's a small price to pay for fame, money, or free booze and drugs.
How long does it take? Thirty seconds?
I can't even imagine how rich, famous and wasted I would be right now if I were a good-looking girl. Then I would laugh at all of you and refuse you a ride in my limousine after flashing my hoo-hoo to throngs of paparazzi.
Damn.

Must be nice to Monday morning quarterback,(or Teusday, as the case may be) the show at Dada. Dada is not clueless, Tania is great at what she does, and instead of bitching about a show why don't you pick up an insturment, get on stage, and do it better?

other than the many mis-spellings, i would also like to comment on the anon above. no, tania is not good. or bearable. and just because someone realizes that tania is awful doesn't mean that they must form a band to defeat the shitty bands in dallas. i can play an instrument yet i realize that i am not a very good musician so i play in my apartment. unlike tania who sings karaoke and figures she's so amazing that she needs to headline over much more obviously worthy musicians. the whole "go learn and instrument" thing is so worn out. most people here can probably at least strum a few bars. it's not fucking rocket science. rocket science is figuring out that you're not that good and should probably just keep music as a hobby.

@11:12. i play lots of instruments and am on stage almost every weekend. tania still sucks.

god bless you, 1208am. fucking hell, I'm probably one of the most opiniated people about shitty bands (and loud about it) and catch exactly this kind of flack all the time, but what most of them don't know is that I can play the shit out of an instrument and have even played some pretty important gigs (to me)-just not rock'n'roll-for crying out loud. Where the hell do you think the mighty opinion comes from?

and ps, assholes, anybody can HEAR and that's what's really at stake here. not whether anybody can be a jackass on stage.

in tania's defense though-if you read carlin's statement, she didn't choose to headline, dodo's didn't want to. so read the facts, folks.

Musical critiques and suggestion-based critical commentary are one thing, but to make personal attacks on an individual just seems counterproductive and inappropriate.

As a woman, it is even more disturbing that the usual line of attack is to claim that a woman is sucking someone's dick to get a show, write-up, etc. When that doesn't work, commenters resort to calling us cunts, whores, accusing us of sleeping with everything that moves, etc. I myself have had to tolerate it. And no matter how much you ignore it, it doesn't make it hurt any less, because you know, even though it isn't true, that other people are seeing it. Though false, its no less humiliating.

I'm certainly not a fan of Tania's style, but what I am a fan of is how hard she works to promote music in general, how dedicated she is to the Save the Scene project, and how much heart she puts into everything she does.

I love this blog, and am not so ignorant to know that the majority of its commenters are not a direct reflection of who WSJR are, nor what they wish to embody. But at the same time, are we not a reflection of who we surround ourselves with - at least to some degree?

And yes, being the headliner in Dallas ALWAYS sucks.
