It List: Monday 6/11/07

All I know of is bad ass jazz happening at Amsterdam, and fans of M. Ward can check out his performance opening for DFW's own Norah Jones at Nokia Theater. I think I'll pass.

LITTLE TIMMY MCRANDOM ALBUM REVIEW #1:

I just got The Pretenders "Learning to Crawl". I really liked their first 2 albums, but aftre listening to "Learning...." I found it to be really boring and not really rocking at all. The sonic mastery that was The Adultress and The Phone Call was just not relived at all on "Learning..." with mediocre numbers like Back on the Chain Gang, Middle of the Road, and I Hurt You. The closest they ever came to having a little fun/Chrissy Hynde really letting her beautiful voice shine were in the upbeat dueling guitar # "Time the Avenger" which was reminiscent of Spaced Invader from the first Pretenders album, except with vocals this time, and by far the prettiest track on the album...made me shiver in that great way a good song can only do: Show Me. Just a really nice track that really showcases how great Miss Hynde's voice really is.

The rest of the album was just very mediocre in almost every respect. I really couldn't say there was much of a difference between Watching the Clothes", "Thumbelina", "My City Was Gone"(probably the most pretentious Pretenders track ever written...a song about how the british Miss Hynde really misses her "home town, where she was born and raised"..of....Ohio. Does she even know that Ohio is not a city, but a state? Weird.) 2000 miles is a boring christmas number...a strange way to end an album if you ask me, But for a Christmas song, it's OK.

Overall I would have to give Pretenders "Learning to Crawl" 1 out of 4 stars. I wish I could be nicer, but then you might go out and spend your money on Learning to Crawl instead of Pretenders II, and that would not be a good thing at all. By all means, buy Pretenders I and II and play them both LOUD, but don't worry about Learning to Crawl. If they have a single for Show Me or Time the Avenger I recommend getting those.

Have a great day!

And I think I can be just as informativeYou can too) as We Shot J.R. That and they make it pretty easy to jack their blogs. So, fuck it, I wrote an article about The Pretenders 3rd album. I thought it was much more informative than the Daniel Folmer article, so it can't be that bad. If I were a Pretenders fan who had second guesses about checking out post-Farndon/Honeymann-Scott Pretenders then this article would prove quite useful to them.

I don't see why you care, 6:14 PM.

p.s. I must add that although I think pretenders I and II are amazing albums to be purchased IMMEDIATELY, pretty much everything else The Pretenders/Chrissy Hynde has ever done is pretty weak. It's quite disappointing actually, but that's how it is with some bands. I'm sure there are millions who would disagree with me though. So be it!
