It List: Tuesday 10/16/07

BOTH OF THESE SHOWS WERE CANCELED, SO INSTEAD OF GOING TO THESE PLACES, WATCH THIS.

Dillinger Escape Plan/ Genghis Tron/Behold The Arctopus (Curtain Club): Genghis Tron mixes electronics with hardcore and I remember them being pretty decent, but I definitely wouldn't want to have to go to this venue with this lineup to catch them. Dillinger Escape Plan has a solid live rep, but the vocals kind of ruin it for me. I thought they'd be playing Nokia by now. Just want to mention that those Relapse bands sure love their hoodies.

Matthew And The Arrogant Sea/Brooke Waggoner/ The Winter Sounds (Double Wide): I might catch MATAS tonight to get a brief respite from all of this local controversy.

Sorry to say the Double-Wide show is cancelled. MATAS cancelled yesterday due to transportation issues. And then I just found out about 15 minutes ago that Brooke Waggoner is not showing up, so I cancelled the show. Sorry for any inconvenience. It's just not my day apparently.

I did some more investigative music journalism and found an Oct. 1 post on Dillinger's myspace blog that says they had to cancel the tour.

"We were filming two videos last week, and leave it to our resident Tornado Of Destruction In A Small Kosher Frame known as Ben Weinman to somehow break his foot while filming A FUCKING VIDEO."

Item!

In the new Best American Nonrequired Reading 2007, in the listing of "Best American New Band Names" (on page 11), these locals bands are listed: the Tah-Dahs, the Happy Bullets, Centro-Matic, and the Theater Fire.

I guess Dave Eggers has a loose definition of "new."

Dave Eggers actually gets his kids from 826 Valencia to help him gather information like that. I wouldn't expect a 16 year-old from California to know who the Tah-Dahs, the Happy Bullets, Centro-Matic, and the Theater Fire are.

I could be wrong though.

Anyway, I thought it was kinda cool that those bands were in TBANR2007, and it was fun reading all the band names they chose.

**But...the editors probably should have looked into that. Maybe they just really liked the names and wanted them to be included.
