It\'s a good album. I don\'t think it is such a big deal to \"grab for attention\" when you have a new album coming out that you are excited about. I got to hear it, and obviously they\'re friends of mine so I felt like defending them. They work hard, and are nice people. I think you might be reading too much into it. And your comment at 1:35 leads me to believe that maybe it doesn\'t bug you as much as you think it does. :) And, now that you have me thing about it, I know for a fact that when that poker website blurb got around, they were really excited and proud but didn\'t attempt to capitalize on it. Can\'t we all just get along on MLK day? Let\'s hug it out.
God forbid someone tries to promote their own music by listing a reason to check it out. Sure, maybe not every project Albini has been involved with has been great, but his recordings are always solid.
If that doesn\'t do it for you, check out that new song on the WSJR compilation or go see them live. The new songs are beyond what they had done in the past. Live and on that recording, you can tell they worked their asses off, because their playing is super tight now.
The problem with a lot of younger bands is they don\'t give a shit about how they record. I hear a lot of great bands around here that schlock some shit together on a 4 track and call it gold. Would a record from a band like Jesus Lizard be the same if they recorded more lo fi? I think not. Lo fi works for some stuff, but I think a band like Record Hop is better off with a good engineer behind the board. It really does make a differance. If some of you kiddos actually still believed in buying records you might actually notice a differance.
Bob Weston is one hell of a mastering engineer. Does everything have to be name drop with you numbskulls. Back in the old days we old foggies went to these strange places called record stores where we would actually look at the liner notes to find out such information. In a digital age of downloaded music it seems the whole concept of liner notes is kind of going the way of the dodo bird.
Do It Yourself(DIY) does not mean do it yourself and make sure it sounds cheap and amateurish.

I heard the Record Hop album a few months ago and it was good. I\'m glad that the newer version has Ashley a bit higher in the mix. Don\'t know if that was John Congleton\'s or JC\'s doing, but it works well on the song from the comp.
