It List: Tuesday

Death Cab For Cutie/Rogue Wave (Nokia): Re: Death Cab- Where are all the people who used to bug me about this band eight years ago? Did they escape to South America with all the other war criminals?

The Roots (House Of Blues): The Roots have had their moments here and there (mostly on Illadelph Halflife,) but I've never been convinced that mixing in jam band elements is the solution to saving the live Hip Hop show. Judging by the fact that they will perform sans opening act tonight, that argument is still being made.

?uestlove (Ghostbar): After-party for the Roots show, obviously.

Disqo Disco (Fallout Lounge): Tonight's guest is Blixaboy aka Wanz Dover.

Dysrhythmia/Broadcast Sea/Four Days To Burn (Bar Of Soap): I'm told this show is free, all the more reason to go see and hear one of the handful of anomalies on Relapse Records, Dysrhythmia. Dysrhythmia is an instrumental group of considerable technical prowess, but aren't as boring as other groups in the tricky riff and time-signatures genre. Perhaps this is due to several surprising turns in the music, from the incorporation of Norwegian Black Metal sounds to ambient influences and even some melodic material that could pass for a record on Thrill Jockey.

From their name to that guy's voice, Death Cab for Cutie have always typified the most annoying aspects of "indie rock" to me. Although, I find the Postal Service a little more tolerable for some reason.

i don't fucking care what band you hate. it's not even funny anymore. yes it's not cool to like death cab for cutie.

it's because of the relentless (and pointless) shit talking by the writers on this blog, that earns it the title of gossip blog

dysrhythmia must have gotten way less boring over the past few years because they used to be pretty damn straight math metal on the mathy side.

p.s. hating Death Cab for Cutie (and kind of liking the Postal Service) is not gossip. It's a (common) opinion.

I LOL @ Swampass. DL, I don't understand the significance of the Roots, or whoever, not having an opening act. Please explain what that might mean.

Don't you like the way they make themselves feel better or some how try and squash some of the closer to the truth of the community comments (from anonymous ones) by painting the whole thing with the "gosip blog" stroke. I love it. Whatever makes them feel better about themselves and eases the pain baby. Whatever. Oddly enough honesty exists more here than it does in their cheerleader clique circles or blogs.

whats Perez Hilton?

3:04 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Anonymous 2:01 you make me feel a lot better. I thought I'd take a break from all that nasty roots music and try out something more progressive and all I really got was songs that amounted to half-baked, stretched-out intros with hesitant, muttering vocals.

Dick Hyman is always in good taste though, and that Indoor Life track was gosh-a-plenty whiz-bang!

3:16 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

old fashioned hear hear. that mix wasn't really progressive in the least bit. its really dated. but it be nice to hear in a random bar in a random town from the jukebox anyday. if they played that here in the metroplex id probably fall in love with the place. but as a mix from someone out of denton i would expect more. the selections were good but ive heard that stuff from dime a dozen djs in austin, pdx and or north cal.
