It List: Tuesday

Official Dallas County Democratic Election Night Watch Party (413 N Bishop Ave., Bishop Arts District, Oak Cliff) There is no show I can really wholeheartedly recommend on a night like this, and honestly, I don't know of anyone that plans on going out for non-election reasons. What I can do is tell you, again, about the best option for gathering in public and doing one of the following:

A. Celebrate.
B. Get agitated and confused because of ballot issues and human error.
C. Weep softly in the corner.
D. Not care because you're too cool and anarcho to vote.*

This event starts at 6:00 and ends at 11:30 PM. There will be live music (I believe The Happy Bullets are performing), three large screens broadcasting the results, Democratic candidates and elected officials, and the rare joy of congregating in Texas with people sympathetic to your oft-ridiculed political leanings. See you there.

Note: Complimentary remote parking is available at the Oak Cliff Tower
building (A.K.A. Bank of America building), located at 12th and
Beckley. A complimentary shuttle bus will run continuously to and from
the festival.

*Eff you, jerks. Yes, we're still friends. I'll forgive you by Christmas.

Whooooooooooo.....

1. Wanz Dover is (by the polls) Pres-O-dent of the Scene. Please kill yourself now.

2. All Lawyers in Dallas County are officially "Scene Makers." (Sorry nothing personal) (*sorry to the rest of the folks who don't have the capacity to actually get a law degree. Fuck off dumb ass)

3. Whoever is left that has talent, is leaving for the coast:

You suck! Because you can't hang with the REAL (this is specific to Jonny Murder, who in fact is not "murdered" but who pussed out because he's on drugs and can't keep a venue going and moved to Portland.

4. To Yomens:

Yep. You own buddy. Other than the fact that you're not an investor in "Good Records" (because you're from a poor family or not gay), you've somehow shoe-horned yourself into EVERYTHING in Dallas' music scene. Nice job buddy, why don't you have another drink... or maybe a taco.

5. DJ'S! :

OH MY, Where to start. "Can you ride on the coattails of ONE single DJ (and everyone knows his name...it's Marcus (not with a K)/Nature) and still have your own scene... YES YOU CAN!!!!!!!!!!

6. The Baptists Generals:

Wow, really? You guys are seriously the most lame excuse for a scene that I've ever respected. SERIOUSLY, like you can't get your people together for ONE FUCKING SHOW? As it turns out... You old shit was good. Your new shit is tired.

7. OLD DUDES IN DENTON:

I'm not sure if you got the memo on this, but... you're not in college anymore. Now. Peace out.

8. OLD DUDES IN DALLAS:

You aint got scene! Transparent jealousy! Naive outlook on Denton old dudes. Crushing defeat since 1998. Dallas old dudes still drinking hater aid mixed with black tie dynasty since deep ellum died. Get fucked.

Denton vs. Dallas vs. Ft.Worth Presidential election results.

Denton County:
Obama - 37%
McCain - 62%

Dallas County:
Obama - 57%
McCain - 42%

Tarrant County:
Obama - 44%
McCain - 55%

Wow. Dallas actually does not suck at something.

I was in a group about town for a couple of years. A friend (who was also in the group)told me that we were Dinosaurs. He subsequently moved on. Question: When did this "pop" ethos bind soley to the age of its producers? Folks like young and fresh, sure, (enter Obama) but this babbling about age is annoying. Within a sense of perspective, I am in subtle agreement that the truely successful movers of this culture make an impact fast and furious. You don't see many jandeks caning around; but on that note, he does get a lot of "scenester" attention. Enjoy! I can appreciate the youthful and rebelious sincerity of how petty and foolish this musical movement is. What happened to mentorship? What came of a rectitude in the gestural notion of the handshake rather than that of the middle finger? Punk is so tired. With the ability to cross cultures and break bounderies, the youth have a cosmic heads up on the rest of us aging artfuls, but they fail to see it as clearly as their idolaters. Most youth want a dramatic quality of control. Most love boxes. Many set up the same fortresses they rebel against--until they turn old or smarten up. I personally have put to thought being old in Denton. In a way, I can't help but to admire the changes I've seen and the 3 vastly unique lives lived during my resolve. Am I disappointed in my need to keep most of my educated dabblings away from the thrust of some capitalistic credo bonded with the irony of what has always been a clear vision of the present--albeit through bifocals? Yeah, a tad. And perhaps in my angst, I've come to respect the less poetic, although surely meaningful angst of the youth and its cynicism in this, a less perfect, socio-musical mandala.

P.S. I suppose the mature thing to do after all that B.S. would be to say FUCK YOU.

On this count, Denton is pathetic. That is ridiculous. Every non-redneck in Denton is apparently Category D.

oh wow the point is being made that while dallas is more liberal on the election forefront than denton dallas still puts out black tie dynasties and kills deep ellums. while denton doesnt have trouble being more respected musically internationally (both academically and indie (yeh i know i said indie you fuck)) and having a handful of informal music venues on a rotating basis. that just goes to show you the small few liberals denton does have dont have trouble keeping that element around while the larger amount of liberals in dallas have trouble keeping that element. And this argument is stupid but its fun.

irony.

well, considering the fact that the majority of Denton County is actually super conservative - either wealthy horse farms and ex dallasites escaping "to the country" or working class Baptists - that doesn't surprise me. Denton is a tiny liberal bubble surrounded by the likes of Argyle, Aubrey, Sanger, Pilot Point, Corinth, Justin, Ponder, Krum, etc., as well as a town proper that couldn't wait to get rid of Fry St and put in some family friendly shopping and dining.
soo.... despiting voting early and voting proud, didn't do too much good. and considering the fact that I've already heard one person today say that she is acquiring passports for her kids and herself because there's going to be a second Civil War and the country's going to hell, well....

Yeah. I was talking to a guy today who said that he wants to move to South America to flee the communist dictator. The Sky is Falling! Yo, Bush supporters: you have been duped into believing leadership is a foot hill shy of anti-democratic sentiment and the inability to have any control over your already wasteful and inconsiderate lives. Go back into the bomb shelter and don't come back out until the GOP refreshes its ever fading image.

Maybe Liberals in Dallas are busy worrying about REAL problems in society. Maybe they are "hip" for many political and social reasons that have nothing to do with how lame it's music scene is.

There is more to life than a hip music scene. Kudos for Denton for having good music and lots of venues, but you still get the gas face for McCain winning your county by a wider margin than the statewide numbers. That is pretty sad.

hillary rosen wins the award for most pathetic excuse for the lack of a music scene in dallas, on these boards.
Yeh hillary rosen, sure... Thats why some of you dallas liberals are here discussing music right? Whats sad is your music scene. Most the people who run the music shit in denton aren't mccain supporters so your assessment is myopic. Again... excuses excuses. Good try in trying to diminish the Denton scene and equating it with mccain, but it ended up being very transparent.
