Lost Generation with Wanz Dover plus Farah/Slackbeat (The Lounge): Wanz has a new strategy for Lost Generation where he is going to start hosting different guest live acts and DJ's along with his own sets. He has some pretty interesting lineups scheduled with acts such as Big Elf, Rooftop Vigilantes, and local record collector and ex-Robo-Gnostic member, Jason Cohen. He also used to run Forbidden Books, and according to my dealer at one of my favorite hidden-gem record shops, he was just a few hours ahead of me on a recent record-shopping excursion in middle-of-nowhere, Llano, TX, one day after New Year's. Definitely a coincidence but, man, I hate competing with fellow North Texans in my sweet spots.
Tonight's show is a great start to Lost Gen's new set-up with the always great Farah, and Denton's Slackbeat, an unpredictable mix of acoustic instruments, turntable clicks, noise, and other random surprises. They rarely play in Dallas so definitely make it out.

Movie Premier: Macaframa at Angelika Film Center (Dallas): I know a lot of people have been excited about this movie focusing on the world of fixed gear and track biking. Film at 7:30.

not ripping off detour. I did not know they owned the band/DJ bill format. I am gonna focus on more experimental music and collector scum DJ's. Not necessairly Dance music. Next week Gabe and I are playing old school Punk, hardcore, soul and funk.
The detour guys have my full support and I plan on trying to book opposite shows from what they have on their schedule so we don't step on each others toes. Definately more grindcore and metal nights. This town needs all of help it can get. Promoters trying to compete for a night is part of that cliques and politics thing that I am very much against.

I went to my first punk show in '86 and was a total metal head all the way into high school. I was playing in hardcore bands when most people on this blog were in diapers('91-'95). Literally. That is not a put down, but it is the truth. I am older and don't have the angst to hang with the scene like I used to, but I still have a really big collection of old school hardcore, Thrash and Black Metal. I have friends that still play in hardcore and metal bands and hosting them at my night is a great excuse to dig some older and more extereme stuff out of my crates. You might be surprised how many older DJ's came from the old hardcore scenes of the late 80's and early 90's.
I am not really a DJ(yet). More of a collector scum that likes to turn people on to music......of all types. I am and always will be a musician and record collector first.
wanz also wrote the bible, invented the internet and had time to listen to 6/7 of all music ever written before you did, the average WSJR viewer.
