Strategies of Beauty Profiles
Like we said last week, this week we'll be profiling some of the bands playing at the Strategies of Beauty festival on Saturday at Rubber Gloves in Denton. We think this thing could be one of the local music highlights of the year, so we'll be giving it a little more coverage than we usually do for most concerts. Since we're lazy, and we've already done profiles on two of performers, we'll start by linking back to those. You can expect handful more of them this week:

SPIN
Oh yeah, I forgot about that.
SPIN.
These are two of the better acts from strategies of beauty.
Some are better ideas than bands.
anon 9:51- if you are deciding who is a "better idea than a band" based on the internet, you really need to come to this show and see what people are doing in reality, maybe you will be surprised.
same anon here. I've seen 90% of the bands. I'll be at the show probably. Just trying to balance out the massive hype with a little reality. What time does JRs band play?
"massive hype?" Some profiles on a blog qualify as "massive?"
so when something genuine that a group of local people that take their craft very seriously gets a little attention, suddenly its unrealistic and unbalanced with massive hype?
or rather, something genuine put together by a group of people... etc. to correct myself.
I mean, if you pay attention, none of these bands are the "usual suspects" around dfw.
Who are the usual suspects?
Relax. I'm going to the show. So are lots of people.
But seriously, who are the usual suspects?
I think he means all of the dumb bands that get most of the real attention in this area. And if he doesn't mean that, then its what I mean.
you know, record hop (I heart you scott and this is in no way an insult), the undoing, strange boys, the happy bullets, fishboy, mazinga...
and I'm sure I've left alot out.
and yes, what stonedranger said too.
thats true too... these aren't even the GOOD bands that get some attention. These are mostly good bands that get hardly any attention.
anon here. I see what you mean. I'll be there. S.O.B. is a worthy enterprise. Don't mind my poor choice of words. Internet type chat blog hype bands so important blah blaf blog. Hope people come out for the show. And then those bands can become the usual suspects and have to apologize for their plans working out!
Seriously, no problem here. I get it and I'll be there. It is only 5 bucks.
what just happened?
don't take yourself so seriously, jamo. people talk about samantha being a cop on here. but between you and ed, you could start a blog cop force. don't assume that people who would criticize these bands haven't heard them. you guys are usual suspects in your own way. at least I hear your names everyday. but that's probably the company I keep.
Yeah I thik all of us suck in some ways ... but we are trying to do something different, and that counts for a lot.
Yet it doesnt mean people don't have a right to hate us, because of course some people will, and many more just won't "get it." But hopefully it will be something really significant to the people who do get it.
"Get it"?!
Dude, way to invent noise! And you get no points for doing something different. HITLER did something different too!
did he? really? murder en masse was invented 60 yrs ago?.. dont think too hard clifford! human misery is a thing of the past!
I mean, dude, you know, Hitler gets his due, good or bad ...
8:04 - That would be funny if any of us really were true noise bands. Have you ever heard Merzbow??
"true noise bands"
You guys make it too easy.
Oh well, living the examined life...
well, if you hear our names every day, then I guess we are doing well for a band with no manager, no pr, no street team, and that only plays appx twice a month.
usually to about 10 bystanders
AND MORE OFTEN THAN NOT, FOR FREE, IN A BASEMENT!
whoa! anon 5:21,what? how did i get dragged into this?
that hurts ever so slightly.
ok. over it. i think
HEY MC: MASONNA!
I actually don't think you're a blog cop, s.m. Didn't mean to offend you by your inclusion in the example. Ed is actually the huffiest. Where is old Ed, anyway?
are all the jerkyjerkface anonymous comments coming from the same asshole every day? im starting to think so :( be cool man, be cool
anon 5;..6:.., no offense taken past or present.
mc, think we may have some satan's toranade (w/ merzbow) on minidisc and noiseniks galore should check out will kapinos' documentary on the Dead C.
i agree with streisand about both bands mentioned, however i suck cause i've yet to see nftu (can't wait 'til sat)
WILL DID A DOC ON THE DEAD C??? Can you bring a copy on Saturday pleeeeeeese?
everything is packed, michael, since we have the joyous task of moving into a new house on sat also (which is why will may not be able to do as much documentation as i hoped). but oooooooh, yes. we should get a showing together at Secret Headquarters some weekend. or somewhere! ask him about it, though. a dream come true.
HOLY CRAP THIS WOULD BE AMAZING DO IT.
jamo, mike c, anyone else interested:
okay. tomorrow, when you see will , please tell him you're interested. he doesn't believe me when i tell him people are, even just a few.
it's, like, 2+ hours long and he said last night, maybe flippantly, that he wants to go in and re-edit.
if you're into the Dead C or any of their offshoots you want to see the entire thing, trust me. 2 lives shows + intrview stuff - Bruce and Michael loved it, too. Bruce took it to lecture at the Royal Acad of Art in London (i think?? somewhere in london)
whew..tired finger from typing
