It List: Saturday 8/5/06
1. Faux Fox/Chief Death Rage/Cry Blood Apache/The Strange Boys (Rubber Gloves)
Faux Fox has been playing 80's sounding, keyboard heavy rock for so long that they actually existed in a time when it wasn't nearly as common to do so. Their music sometimes seems to almost border on parody and they piss a lot of people off, which is always a plus. Faux Fox also has one of the most obnoxious band websites I've ever seen. Chief Death Rage is Shane and A-Train from The Undoing of David Wright playing with a third member in a sludge rock power trio. The one time I saw them was really good and I've been meaning to catch them again. Cry Blood Apache is an Austin trio that play scratchy and disjointed songs that get better with each listen. They have gained some notoriety through guerilla style shows where they just show up and play on the street or someone else's show or even in a museum. I'm sure you're aware of The Strange Boys. I respect the fact that they don't play exclusively with other garage rock styled bands.
2. Record Hop/White Drugs/The Backsliders (Dan's Silverleaf)
Dan's Silverleaf is a probably a good venue to see Record Hop at. The sound is pretty good and that's important since I always seem to catch this band in a worse case scenario as far as sound is concerned. In my opinion, their self released debut, "Pareidolia" is one of the better local albums in the past five years by a DFW band. The newer songs that aren't on that record have impressed me live as well. White Drugs play trashy rock and roll that's kind of like Pussy Galore when they started playing actual songs. According to The Backsliders Myspace page layout they like alcohol and rock music.
3. White Ghost Shivers (Sons Of Hermann Hall)
White Ghost Shivers continue their journey through DFW by appearing at Sons Of Hermann Hall tonight and that's probably the ideal venue for this group.
4. DJ Panda Flower/DJ Tiger Bee/The Nitrons (Double Wide)
This 60's retro theme event would probably be fun just to hear all the obscure records I don't have the money or time to invest in played really loud and clear instead of suffering through swishy files on an MP3 blog. There is also a band playing but I can't tell if they're a surf group or not just by looking at the flier.
5. Washing Machine/Shelter Belt/Lousy Robot (Darkside Lounge)
Washing Machine has been discussed here before and I when I listened to them again today I noticed they sound kind of like Beck's softer non-rapping albums. Shelter Belt and Lousy Robot are both touring acts that play really poppy indie rock songs.
6. Will Johnson (Bend Studio)
Will Johnson of Centromatic is playing at this venue I've never heard of. I think the place also doubles as a yoga studio or something. Check it Out.
7. Zoo: The Visual Menagerie (The Cavern)
This celebrated and unique event is on tonight at The Cavern.

Washing Machine isn't playing the show tonight at Darkside. They're not quite ready to play live yet with the new drummer. I hope to book them again in the near future. The lineup is (from headliner to opener): Lousy Robot; B Minor Harmonic; Shelter Belt; and Eaton Lake Tonics. 17+ show, $6 cover. Hope to see some of you out!
Great Tyrant, Faceless Werewolves @ Amsterdam Bar tonight...good bands, terrible sound system. Don't know a thing about the opener, Telethon from Austin, so I'll just go and assume they're a ska band.
Current Leaves and Chris Garver @ SHQ if ya havent heard
8-10pm, BYOB, $3
Early show! Plenty of time to go see Record Hop & White Drugs at Dans
Great Tyrant !!!
Thanks for the mention. The Nitrons are a surf band and they played a great set last night and don't play around too often. Good show!
The Great Tyrant blew my skull. These guys are pretty fucking awesome. Telethon is another old John Freeman
project brought back to life.
"they sound kind of like Beck's softer non-rapping albums"
Not quite as good as the Linkin
Park comparisons we've gotten.
Beck is listed under your influences.
didn't the Stellamaris & the Gazelles play last night? I've never seen either of these two bands but what I've heard on their myspace isn't too bad.
Hey, far be it from me to stop you from being emo, bro. I've seen them, I've heard them. Bad is bad. Hot Topic/Warped Tour bullstuff. Like most Plano bands that are not the Early Lines. Don't shoot the messenger, "dude".
I was picking on your Plano bands comment, I wasn't defending the gazelles. Why should Early Lines be exempt? Last time I checked, they were pussies too.
i won't bring up the gazelles again, that's for damn sure.
p.s. does rockwall actually have any real bands?
that's WORSE than plano?
do all the houses in your butthole look the same too?
McHemmroid
go to the douglass community in plano if you think it all looks the same. but take off your tight shirts and jeans, because if you don't you'll probably get your ass kicked. anyone that thinks this is a joke, do some research and please be my guest.
Isn't King of the Hill based on the outer banks of Planoland?
garland
Oh, okay. Well then that means that Plano has no redeeming qualities at all!
we all live in the same lump of shit
stop pretending like a 20 min drive in any direction makes any fucking difference

you're exactly right
Plano Sucks. Haha.

very insightful
what place doesn't suck around here?
insightful sucks. Haha.
glad we've all stayed on topic
topics suck. Haha
just kidding
if it's 100 degrees and you have to hear about West Nile Virus then you're in the same lump of shit as stated before. you don't live on Mars. you are not far removed from one little town and you are no better or worse
lump sucks. haha.
