It List: Tuesday 5/8/07

Note: written by D.L.

Erykah Badu(House Of Blues): If spending sixty-five to seventy-seven dollars for cover at a local venue is your thing, you're in for a treat. The House Of Blues is opening in Dallas tonight and what better way to kick things off in a Clear Channel subsidiary chain establishment that once counted Disney as a shareholder, than to have an outrageous cover charge? Sure, Erykah Badu is playing and she is undoubtedly a big act that can justifiably command a big ticket price. But when this place is somehow supposed to fill the void left by...well, everybody, it doesn't exactly bode well for live music in Dallas. Let's just hope the sound isn't terrible for that inevitable night when one of my favorite national acts play here. Opening night and already this makes Gypsy Tea Room seem like Secret Headquarters.

naw, it's pretty fucking gorgeous in there, and the folks that shell out the $30-100 a ticket for any old show will at least feel like they got their money in ambiance. it's severely bobble headedly corporate. It's weird to see every staff member so happy to see you. But at least when we do have to shell out the money, we'll get a concert and a ride at disney land in the same fare. huh?

still. it ain't no gypsy. rip.

Once again I say..."The idea became the institution." On the other hand if the sound is as schmancy as the ambiance perhaps Dallas will prove to lure the artists who have overlooked Dallas in the past due to the inadequacies and limitations of our venues. I hope this will for one reason or another change here on the whole. I have often attended expensive shows thinking, " I wonder if this performance would sound better if I was at a different venue in a different city. A great sound technician can only do so much with what is available in a venue.

We shall see...

production there is ex gypsy. and no, just as sam machovec (sp!) said in his blog, I don't believe that hob will lure any different array of acts that we've already gotten before. nononononononononono.

nancy, you need to watch it. people are really getting tired of you. id be careful or you are doing a disservice to the bands and venues you represent, or are trying to help, or whatever.

i'm surprised most readers and writers of this blog would even be interested in a band that would play house of blues or really give a shit what goes on there period. kind of goes against the whole philosophy don't you think? these are the kind of clubs your tour managers mom warned you about.

well you notice all they did was bitch about the state of things (and, arguably, rightfully so.) it really didn't have a lot to do with erykah badu herself, nor did DL recommend anyone go see her. unless spending 65-77 dollars for cover at a local venue is our thing... but i think that was probably said in jest.

Erykah Badu is running quite the electronic rig these days. Haven't had the chance to check it out at her venue on MLK and I45 yet.

Not that you care nor would you venture out into the hood for it.

Most shows run $10-$20 if you do care to know.

There's 52 ways to
murder anyone. One and
two are the same, and
they both work as well.
I'm coming clean for Amy.
Julie doesn't scream as
well, and the cops won't
listen all night. So maybe.
I'll be over. Just as
soon as I fill them all in
and I can remember
when I saw her last. We
were running all around
and having a blast. But the
back seat of the drive-in
is so lonely without you, I
know when your home, I
was thinking about you.
There was something I
forgot to say I was crying
on saturday night. I was
out cruising without you,
they were playing our
song, Crying on saturday
night. As the moon
becomes the night time
You go viciously, quietly,
away. I'm sitting in the
bedroom where we used
to sit and smoke
cigarettes Now I'm
watching, watching
you die
