2:59,

WHO is a lawyer, who doesn't plan to play live and recorded at Salim's?

I believe anon 2:59 was answering the question, "Who are The Last Ones On Earth". If you buy the CD (which I have and listened it quite a bit this weekend - excellent work), you'll see it's a guy named Matt Paradowski. I don't know if he's a lawyer, but if he is, good for him. I don't know if he plans to play live, but he should, cause I'd go check him out. He did record at Salim's... which explains why the production is great and the musicianship is solid.

10:01 am,

I heard that Matt P. is actually a pseudonym he uses. I think he is supposed to be someone Salim's brother Faris met in spain or france on some shit and convinced to come make a record with salim. hadn't head that lawyer shit though

Has the info on the band, last one's on earth. There is a Matt Paradowski who is a lawyer in Dallas. Agreed about JD's album, really have been enjoying it.

who gives a fuck what the guy does for a job...half the musicians in this town don't even have one...

found them on myspace though, not really my thing, but the dude can seriously sing/write

by listening i would definately guess its a pseudonym...

Santi? Nice.

all I know about The Last Ones is that the dude seems to have a Paul Simon fetish and the music sounds like Salim was doing a masterclass on protools.

right up your alley if you are into cookie cutter zak crain for mayor soundtrack/sorta-ish MOR adult contemporary.

but in a good way.

for some reason thats just about exactly what I guessed it was like.

a spanish paul simon? huh?

god forbid you actually give the record a spin, stonedranger

say what you will about it, but i have actually seen him play and he is a seriously sick guitar player.

and its pretty laughable hansford that you can call it "mor" but have to go back 40 years to find a comparison...i can't think of anyone that plays like that

I didn't say I wasn't going to give it a listen at some point... I was just saying that my guess as to what it sounded like was very similar to the description above.

yes, the last ones on earth are from spain. santi, the lead singer is a world-class flamenco guitarist and tango dancer. his wife, adrianna morales santiago los dios is actually related to ronnie james dio. she is a famous spanish tap dancer. matt p. is an alias we used to fool the feds into thinking they were still in spain. you see, no green cards. by the way, have you heard the new hanson record?

7:28 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

hansford is kind of right though, fans of sorta might like it if you are actually into bands that can play their instruments/write/and sing....

otherwise, yeah its real lame....fuckstick

ha ha my advice to the last ones on earth....unless you can macgyver an atari 1600 to a comodor 64 and rip that shit over some fat beats you are going to get zero love on this blog, playing instruments is not how we roll here

sounds good though even for an ambulance chaser

12:23 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

oh holy shit 12:23 i think you are on to something, i think we should have hansford pick ONE song off the last ones record and have him stand in front god's green earth and play and sing it note for note and show EVERYONE how "MOR" it is....HA !!

lets give him what six months to practice??? fucking priceless!

for what it's worth, i hate half the shit stonedranger trumpets on this blog.

And I love the "how is your band doing" kind of argument, as if someone that does not make music can not comment on it.

Who cares if I said it was MOR? That is exactly what the barley house brigade is shooting for, correct?

I suppose I should have mentioned that the last ones album is very very listenable. the dude has a decent voice. but the songs really do sound like they were protooled to death and the lyrics... oh god the lyrics....

1. The "I'd like to see you do it" argument IS really dumb, and at this point, its just boring. I'd like to see you be president of the united states. Or quarterback for the Cowboys. Or coach of the Mavericks. Or your boss. Or an anchor on CNN. Or the program director for a radio station. You see? Its really dumb in all those contexts, so why does it make sense with music?

2. "for what its worth, I hate half the shit stonedranger trumpets on this blog"

At least I know I'm doing something right.

this is 2:48 and that is not what i meant, it wasn't a "you can't play" in-your-face remark, what i meant was his shit is super complex for pop and "MOR" is just a lazy decription

Santana plays some intricate hot licks on his geetar, but I wouldn't call his pairing with Michelle Branch anything more than MOR.

Yeah, what in the hell has Paul Simon ever done?

2:35 PM

Yeah, I bet Paul Simon never played a secret Denton house party with Undoing of David Wright, Laura Palmer, and the drunk guy from the 7-11.

Poser.
