Monday Morning Rock
SXSW basically ruled for us this year. We had two wonderful day shows at comfortable venues and got to see a lot of great bands all over Austin each day. We'll have pictures of everything posted ASAP, but some of the highlight shows for me were: Mika Miko, Diplo (at a house party), the Carrots, Death Sentence Panda, New Bloods, Health, No Age (on the Lamar pedestrian bridge), Pissed Jeans, Jay Reatard, Atlas Sound at Ms. Bea's ( Bradford Cox claimed it was Atlas Sound's final show and that Deerhunter will be coming back to life soon), Dan Doyle, Karl Blau, Old Time Relijin, Yellow Fever, Crime Novels. What were some of your highlights? Discover anything new?
OVERHEARD AT SXSW:
1. "My girlfriend tells me I'm too intense about fashion, but I'm a hipster, so I'm actually pretty chill about it." -- completely serious comment from some dude watching Angelo Spencer at Ms. Bee's... he was wearing Von Dutch
2. "I tried to take the SATs once, but I opened up the packet and looked at all those pages and was like 'nah uh!'" -- some white trash chick in a bikini top and shorts at a gas station on South Congress... she more or less screamed the "nah uh" part
3. "Man, the most important dude in the history of punk rock ain't me, it's Fat Mike from fuckin' NOFX man." -- Keith Morris talking to the singer of Fucked Up at Waterloo Park
So now that we're done planning shows for a little while, we can actually start writing reviews and articles and stuff again. We hope to have something good for you this week. Here's a video and some shows for the week:

As far as SXSW is concerned:
TOTALLY bummed I missed Mika Miko, the 666 12" is already my sunny day jam for the year so far, the bridge show was stupid, packed full of Vice dickholes and I couldn't see anything or find half of the actually cool people I wanted to hang out with. Pissed Jeans: apparently the only small show they played was over capacity and almost noone could get in to see it (fortunately for us since we played around the same time right down the street). Jay was better with 2 guitars and I wish the songs were the same speed as the record but playing with him was cool. I don't get Deerhunter hype at all, so many amazing bands in Atlanta and them getting so much cred blows my mind.
Awesome bands I saw (pretty much every band I saw):
Terrible Twos (the best band in America)
Tyvek
the Okmoniks
Home Blitz
Eat Skull (had been seriously hyped up to me, delivered)
Tyvek (AGAIN)
Cheveu (if you're gonna dance to some electronic frenchy shit, this should be it)
Gentlemen Jesse & His Men (3 times)
Cococoma
CARBONAS
CPC Gangbangs
the Spits
the Hipshakes
THE BEAT
man I fucked that up, I copied the post to respond to it band-by-band but forgot to delete! Still completely sleep deprived, no more posting for me.

also, some videos up from last week's shows.
Also overheard......
"I don't want to take a shit at the Vice party because I'm scared someone will take a picture of me and use it as a "Don't"
"If we were playing by the rules we'd be in gym right now!"
"....looks like that girl is Finally Drunk" (insert rim shot)
Diplo, A-trak & Blaqstarr together at the Maxim Blender late hours party was great. The entire I Heart Comix vs Mad Decent party at the garage on Friday was awesome. GET MAD.

Well he said that all of the other members of the group were going back to portland (including honey owens) while he was going to Atlanta to work on other stuff. I guess it could have been a joke, but it made sense to me.
Who said "....looks like that girl is Finally Drunk"
