To cut through all the bullshit, I'll just tell you: the mix Fight Bite has put together for us is incredibly diverse, accessible, and a lot of fun... the perfect soundtrack for a relaxing summer evening. You'll find a little bit of everything on here, from 60's girl pop to garage punk to twee to dance pop, and all of it is perfectly constructed with mood, track sequence and the element of surprise in mind. You can hear a lot of things that might have influenced Fight Bite's music on here, and a lot that absolutely didn't, but the balance of hits and rarities works very well together, and you'll be pleasantly surprised at how this collection of songs spans decades and styles yet remains quite cohesive and purposeful as a whole. i dunno if that was really kyle or not but it was funny. Fight Bite are very nice, I especially love Judee Sill and it makes sense she would be on a Fight Bite selection. She is on the list, not the man-crush list but some other sort of list, she's on it...the sufferer's list? The god list? I believe WSJR readers and comment posters to be a pretty accurate depiction of the self proclaimed music afficionados in Dallas. Meaning, their complete lack of researched referential critique and their obvious sleave wearing predilections often warrant little scrutiny or attention. It is truly a shame WSJR can't foster a more robust dialogue in these comment sections that actually illuminate ideas and feeling expressed in art and music. I guess this Dallas demographic raised on IM'ing and Observer reviews can only express themselves in four letter words and and two word sentence structures(ex "This Sucks")
I'm not expecting David Toop quality soliloquies, but just something to ponder beyond Kyle's gayness and Sally's holy vajayjay bashing, and whatever else you trite fools deem worthy to post over, and over, and over again.
It's really a shame, because I admire the work that the administrators of this blog put into this site. I wish the readers of this blog felt more of an obligation to reciprocate the thought and time the posters have put into making this blog what it is. And it is much more than a gossip blog, as some have labeled it.
As for the mix posted today, it offers a nice selection of relatively accessible music. I won't bother offering my own review since stonedranger summed it up very succinctly. It's a good mix, nothing I haven't really heard before. Sometimes that's exactly whats called for, something that takes you home. The comfortability of familiarity is often enriching after exploring darker unknown territories like Shane English's mix. All in all, WSJR is offering rather fulfilling and intriguing mixes from people across the greater DFW who have better things to do than write platitudinal nonsense on backpages of good blogs.
