Zac Crain for mayor? What a joke! Just what Dallas needs, another useless writer from the observer in office. Hey Zac, if you are going to run for mayor, why don't you try to speak up when the mic is in your hands, instead of sounding like you're scared.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Wow, and that Larz guy from Undoing looks like a really bad wanna be Ziggy Stardust... All in all, that award ceremony was just a load of shit. And Zac Crain can just crawl back to the land of bad writing for the Dallas Observer and give up the quest for Mayor. What a joke.

wow,the paperchase are
REALLY crossing boundries with
their "experimental" sounds

the singer tells the observer that their not a friendly band..
anytime you have to TELL someone that, you are totally reaching for
the.. i am a rock star,i have anger and i am untouchable status.it just makes them look so lame.

yeah dude, the paperchase is probably the only winner that SHOULDNT be shat on. Direct your anger elsewhere.

Man, I'm glad you approve of one of the winners of the doma. They're so much different from everyone else in dallas. playing buzz oven. playing with fair to midland. they are one step removed from any cheesy deep ellum band, they just claim better influences and are on a good label. did you read the pitchfork write-up about them today? scariest band in america or whatever? I do find heavy handed lyrics and cheap local looking artwork "scary" but not in the way you'd expect. the scariest thing congleton is doing is recording the new polyphonic spree album. I guess he likes paychecks more than respect but judging by how most dallas bands conduct themselves, that's no surprise. I guess he figured, "albini recorded bush and veruca salt, maybe I should record the shittiest band of my generation." good job. and the denton rock city people hate this website because it's not a bunch of their drinking buddies slapping them on the back and congratulating every thing they fucking do. typical drc banter:

"dude, today I bought some falafel and shit."

"awesome, man I love that shit. last time I did that I got really wasted and I wrote a metal/country song. wanna start a band?"

"yeah, just come next door. I can see you typing from here."

one more thing:congleton announcing his unfriendliness makes me feel that much better about my limitless hate for that band. I don't think he knows what unfriendly is. Unfriendly is not being neck deep in the worst dfw has to offer, whether it be ex-One ton records people or the poly-fucking-phonic-fucking-spree.

it's as if the whole world is under some spell.totally buying into all that crap.those denton kids are in a dream world too..no wonder they stay there.show them dallas people what hellraisers they are??what?it's true,we're anon on here, but i respect that a whole lot more than than slapping
backs and being fake.their city is falling apart and their getting desperate,i guess.

I LOVE MUSIC!!!

2:42 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

All these two-cent opinions about Congleton's paychecks and RESPECT or whether someone is "experimental" or not... how endlessly sterile. Apparently, every musician in Dallas is either a masterful Beethoven or a money-hungry replica of Creed.

I think you people like to hear yourselves argue. Why not just seek out good music and be a little more realistic?

2:46 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think it is unfortunate, the amount of silly scenester dumbness that is soon to occur. Good bands in Dallas, Good bans in Denton, Good friends in Dallas, Good friends in Denton, and because of a handful of internet posts that bored people make at work, people are about too look really stupid. Of course, the anonymous will fair slightly better, not revealing their names. Everybody is an easy target.

The intimate nature of Denton Rock City lends itself to familiarity. It's 20 people who have known each other for years. There's nothing wrong with a time-waster among friends... Until it is linked to a place like weshotjr, where faceless peeps, under the guise of constructive criticism, and out of their own boredom, can be as hateful as they want in their commentary of people they might like in the real world.

Anybody still even read the itlist? Or are the comment threads the real draw here, seeing how nasty it can get? I guess when there's 100 posts about how sucky everything and everybody is and the it list says to read a book, the answer is pretty easy to figure out.

yah, i really dont see the Ziggy comparison -- I think Cher in the "If I Could Turn Back Time" video looks more like Ziggy then "guy in silver jacket"

Anonymous Anonymous said...

The drc sounded especially bitter the last 2 days. I just made a joke about their familiar banter. I didn't try to start a war. Their gang mentality won't let a joke go unpunished, I guess. And I always read the Itlist.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

i don't get why the drc people have bad mouthed dallas for so long on their site, but as soon as they get a little criticism about their behaviors we are the fucked up ones? it's good it was called out..about time everybody just shut the fuck up about where you live.i just wished this many people cared to show up and support each other's music

3:01 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

dude, it's montel jordan, not montel williams. come on now.

i'm pretty certain everyone on dRC thought the falafel joke was funny not offensive. cause it's so fucking true.

3:01 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

The new pAperchAse is probably pretty good. Congleton played a show in Dec. at the Sanctuary with URTU, Malise and the Chimeneas, so let him make a buck off Tim & the Spree if he wants. Apparently they only charge $10,000 a performance if they're playing benefits. Congleton has done enough solid stuff to earn a buck or two. As long as he continues to support worthwhile local music, fine.

But I agree why have an experimental category if it's filled w/ bands who are not experimental at all?

because I'm tired:

1. I like Paper Chase, and although I was rooting for Undoing, I don't see any problem with them winning. Even if you aren't crazy about them, they couldn't possibly be on the top of anyone's "things that suck about dallas" list, could they?

2. The other day, I saw someone dissing WSJR on Denton Rock City, and I went on there and jabbed back a little. It started a bunch of crap with me and some kid on there, and I just went over there and said I wasn't going to post anymore. I honestly don't know who any of those people are, and I guess I really don't care.

Thats it and thats all

The tension is funny.

Falafel is funny.

Arguing on the internet is the funniest.

Everyone got their internet feelings hurt.

Whether it's Dallas or Denton, it's still part of the fakest metroplex on the planet. There's no culture here, not enough to support anything other than boob jobs and big business.

My scene is SO much better than your scene. Oh wait your scene is 25 miles from my scene? Let's fight.

I vote that everyone on this site and on the drc is lame.

yeah, I'll say it again, I like anon posts for that reason. Sometimes I wish I could find out who was who, but most of the time I just like reading the comments... even the dumb ones. Because sometimes they are funny, and sometimes they are smart, informed, and well worth the read.

And I think Lars looks like a young Andy Warhol in that picture. I thought that was the most obvious... I mean, he's even got the meth head silver going on.

What's wrong with you? Are you one of those guys that solos really loud at guitar center? Why don't you go write for Buddy magazine, Mr. Chops. And don't say "NUF SAID", we fucking decide that.

And on a related but contrary note, knowing a lot about the Denton scene is why I can generalize about them.

i don't care if you're from Dallas,
Denton, or Fort Worth. if you post
