You Gotta Be KIDDin Me

My friend and I just compared Jason Kidd's season stats to Devin Harris', and we figured out that Kidd should bring roughly 12 more PPGs with him (when you factor in assits and rebounds via shooting percentage and second chance points). However, I just don't see the logic in getting rid of Devin Harris, an impressive rising talent, Jerry Stackhouse, the only guy in the NBA who can say that he's bitch slapped the living shit out of Shaq, and TWO future first round picks for a 35 year old making $20 million a year. But whatever. If they win it all this year, this is a good trade. If they do anything less, it was a bad move. The quality is bad on this video, but you can see enough to get the point:

that clip is awesome and I think the trade is as well. Kidd has a few good years left. If the Mavs failed again this year, the team would implode. They needed to make a move. The team was already falling apart, and injuries were killing them.

If this happens, the Mavs are getting taken to the cleaners by giving up:

- 5 players for 2
- Our young starting point guard for a 34 year old
- Maybe our best clutch scorer if we need a one-on-one basket (Stack)
- Back-up center (if Damp stinks it up, who do you put in against Shaq, Duncan, et al?) He’s literally the only other center on the roster
- George + Ager + $3M cash....PLUS first rd. draft pick in 2008 and 2010?

That’s WAY more than you need (or should) give up for Kidd.

So – our starting five is:

Jason Kidd
Jason Terry
Josh Howard
Dirk Nowitzski
Erick Dampier

Bench is:

???.....Brandon Bass? Eddie Jones and his 36-year-old corpse? We've got a good starting 5, but unless Avery suits up again, that’s ALL we've got. Unless Malik Allen has more game than I think.

AND – lastly – who is Kidd going to run the break with and throw oops to? Howard, maybe? Anyone else?

I could be wrong, but this seems like a bad deal for the Mavs.

after 12 years AWOL

Hoops is finally fun again. Winning schminning, Kidd is so fun to watch especially now back in the west, and back in the green where he's always belonged.

Even though Nash worked out pretty good, and Finley too, I never forgave them for dumping Kidd like they did for nearly nothing.

excellent trade, getting rid of soon to be expired contracts (diop and george). Kidd is a much better leader/player than young ass harris. And the stack contract is almost up, we could actually get him back after this season. Plus he's like 50 in basketball years

Yeah funny you guys are fretting over that fossil anyways. Besides, we're not losing him ...

"The Nets are expected to buy out Stackhouse's contract immediately, which could enable him to re-sign with Dallas if he waits 30 days."

"I feel great. I get 30 days to rest, then I'll be right back," Stackhouse said. "I ain't going nowhere."

I think the Mavs realized that Harris is never going to become the elite point guard that he was drafted to be. He's been good, but not good enough. It was time to hit it and quit it. Good Trade.

NBA fun fact:

Mavs would have picks #3 (Kidd), #5 (Ju Howard), #10 (E Jones) of the 1994 draft if George will accept the trade

Glad Stack is staying (it seems). The 5 spot is the huge question here...Diop progressed very nicely as an inside defensive presence, and even knew how to take care of the basketball underneath when asked. That's kinda scary to lose him. I think maybe the Mavericks were so drained after the non-stop Avery-up-their-ass 2006/07 ended in abrupt disappointment that they play up and down to their competitions' levels and are waiting for the playoffs. It seems like that combined with a few other huge trades by Western Conference powers has worried the Mavericks' management so much that they pulled the trigger. Always creepy to bargain a huge piece of the future ( Harris, one of the quickest NBA players and a very strong defender, and serious draft picks), but one thing is for sure, Jason Kidd wants to win and he wants to win bad. It will definitely be fun to watch. My friend is busting out her old Kidd Mavs' jersey from her parents' house for the occasion. Jerry Stackhouse is my man, so I really hope he keeps his bulldog mentality in town. He might be the difference maker, since that shit's decided in the 4th quarter. I'm more excited that pitchers and catchers officially report tomorrow.

playing alongside vince carter and richard jefferson is a big reason why kidd has been doing very well. these three compliment each other perfectly and they've learned to play together over the years. i don't see the same sort of thing happening with the mavs, although he will be a very good addition to the team. the point is we're forsaking devin harris, someone who should be on the mavs for years to come, and possibly stackhouse if new jersey agrees to waive within 30 days. not to mention that we're getting rid of diop, leaving our only 5 to be dampier. if that old man gets injured, who will be our center? dallas is attempting to make a blockbuster trade on par with shaq to phoenix or pau to LA, but the trade for kidd does not put us on the same level as those teams. in effect, this trade makes the mavs stronger, but not "stronger enough".

This is a crazy one if the trade ever happens. I still can't get over Grant Hill playing for Phoenix. This makes me want to go to a sports bar, order a bud light, and talk NBA stats with a random stranger.
