Sorry Im late, but luckily, there isn't anything going on tonight other than the usual... we'll have at least two features this week that will make you want to kiss us, so stay tuned for those. One might be up tonight. And in case you forgot: Cool Out, Jazz at Amsterdam and Paul Slavens @ Dan's are all happening tonight.

Last weekend I went to Good Records with the intent of slowly going through all the vinyl they offer. Based on the look of a group of records in a section titled "Mississippi Records", I bought all five. It was a blind purchase, I didn't know anything about the label, and there is very little information on most of the records themselves. Lucked out, I bought some really good shit that I think a few of you on this bored would be interested in.

Mississippi Records is a little record store on Mississippi Avenue in Portland. They release limited edition (I believe as little as a thousand pressings) vinyl of audio that the owners like. They have no web presence, and they freely offer that people copy and spread their records around as there are so few made. I believe the owners of the store/label also have connections with that acetate recording of the Velvet Underground that was found at the Chelsea Flea Market in NYC a few years ago.

Anyway, these records are awesome... there are still a few copies up at Good Records, and they are about $11.00 a piece.

Here is a link to the Mississippi Records section on Forced Exposure with descriptions of the stuff.

Good Records has "Last Kind Words (1926-1953)", "Philip Cochran and the Artistic Heritage Ensemble: Malcolm X Tribute", "Skip James", "70s Thai Orchestra", and "Love is Love" (a compilation of African R&B, Highlife & Dry Guitar music recorded from the 1950s to the 70s).

Worth your time.

Weird, I have a 7 inch from current band Red Herring on Mississippi Records. That seems like an interesting list of titles, and I like Red Herring (not related to Red Herrings of FW). I guess they're related lable-wise?

Red Herring weren't on the list but are from Portland I know, which is totally suspenseful. I'm not at home so I can't look at the record. HEY I'LL KEEP YOU GUYS POSTED BROWNIES IN THE FRIDGE.

Well, Dog Faced Hermans are on Red Herring's myspace buddy list thing so I would assume they are related.
