Good Records vs. Other Music
I thought it might be interesting to compare last week's Good Records sales chart to Other Music's top 30 sales chart from the same week. I was surprised at the number of artists who appear on both: Ratatat, Black Keys, Mountain Goats, Yo La Tengo, OOIOO, Grizzly Bear, Junior Boys and Bonnie Prince Billy. In other words, 40% of Good Records' chart is the same as Other Music's, which many consider to be one of the better record stores in the country. Here they are:

yeah, that was one of the ones I was hoping to see on both. I love that guy.
weird, midlake gets some serious home state love still
thought we'd moved past that
both albums charting with you all?
natch Polyphonic crap is up there
but what can you expect
otherwise, quite nice!
oh yeah, sweet there's all this grizzly bear love on here.
that and joanna newsome are best albums of the year
wait, you mean people all listen to the same music like sheep? i was painfully anawares! thanks for pointing that out sir!
i cant stand this "sheep" nonsense! just because people happen to like the same thing does not make them sheep!

I'd have to say you're right on about that... all I was trying to point out was that people might be misdirecting their anger a bit when they blame Good Records and its selection for the shitty bands that dominate the local music scene. I was trying to show that they sell much of the same music as some of the highly respected record stores around the country.
other music was a lot tinier than I expected ... and a lot snobbier. they did have a 'decadanse' section though.
yes, I've been there too and I had the same thoughts. In fact, I would say that the employees I encountered probably actually WOULD have shot someone for asking about the garden state soundtrack. That video isn't very far off, because they were such assholes that it was funny.
you've got it all wrong, waterloo records in austin is the best record store in the universe, roky shops there and stuff and they have lots of things and no bullshit people there and they sell everything in the universe not just select nonsense. also respect to stonedranger for acknowledging my brilliant comment (447 as you say)
love,
anonymous
also i feel it is time i reveal myself to you, the internet
but i wont
wait a second it turns out that i was not acknowledged and i remain an inackknowledged ewe among mortalz..
:(
schizophrenia, is taking me home
447,I will agree with you on one thing: I'd rather shop at Waterloo than Other Music.

I'm sorry. my previous comment was taken wayyyyyy out of context. Just because people are not rushing to buy a bunch of electronic records so they make the chart at good records is not a reflection on good records itself. I was kind of just being a smartass becauase I was particulary moody that day. Egg on my face. Good records has a pretty damn good selection especially since they changed locations. Really good for Dallas. Just because I go online to buy records they don't sell does not mean the store sux. I have been raiding their DVD selection pretty hard as of the past few months. It is more than decent. To those it may concern I'm sorry if I rubbed you the wrong way. Really. Don't be so sensitive. It's just a blog and I was not dissing your store. I even overlooked that ooioo was even on there which makes me village idiot. No biggy. Woops.
