It List: Wednesday 5/9/07
Nouns Group/Mom/ Wild in the Streets (Humane Society Benefit Show Dan's Silverleaf): Normally I'd say something about what a strange line up this is, seeing as how I can't think of two good bands in DFWd that sound LESS like one another than Nouns Group and Mom, but since the guest of honor for tonight's show is a dog, I can probably just get away with saying that this show is gonna be cool and stuff. It's a great line up on a big stage, and the proceeds go to the Denton Humane Society. Easy sell.
Signal Lost/Akkolyte/Trifle Tower (1919 Hemphill): On several occasions over the past few months, I've seen statements in our comments threads to the effect of "everything the Gonzalez brothers do is incredible." And you know what, after seeing both Akkolyte and Unconscious Collective, I'd have to say I agree. Two of the most impressive talents in the area doing whatever the hell they want.
Sarah Reddington/ The Robot Ate Me/Tha Bracelets/MC Router (Rubber Gloves)
This is Radio Clash with Flashlight Party: This will be Jordan's last Flashlight show at Hailey's before he moves down to Austin. Stop by. Good stuff is always played.
The Postmarks/Sarah Jaffe (Club Dada): Although I can't say that I have too much faith in the tastes of many members of the Dallas media, I'm a bit surprised with all the local attention that Sarah Jaffe has received over the past few months. She's got a great voice, there's no arguing that, but to me most of her songs sound like Dawson's Creek music: fairly run-of-the-mill emotional singer-songwriter stuff that doesn't pack much of a punch lyrically or musically. Nothing terrible I suppose, but that's about as close as I can come to joining the chorus on this one.

Glen Farris at City Tavern at 8:00.
I was kind of sick of the chorus any-damn-way, so no need to join it.

One of us will do it for free. I won't say who, but the pretty ones are probably out of your price range.
Come to the show so that I don't regret losing sleep before an 8am final!!
What a great night!!
MOM was awesome at Dan's.
The Robot Ate Me and Sarah Reddington were both really great at Rubber Gloves.
Woo!
im bored today, lets talk about ppt. i can't get into them at all. anyone else? i mean, im not really a hardcore a rap fan. i do like aqeumini, atliens, creepin on a come up, jedi mind tricks, the blueprint and east 1999. i just dont understand the hype. why are they on the cover of quick and other publications? they just dont do it for me.
they're on the cover of the Quick because they appeal more to white people than any other dallas rap group.
PPT is pretty rad except for the fact that they only play shows with the killers, i mean the jim carry band, i mean.....
oh yeah, one of them has a business pimpin' peoples shoes.
you mean interpol?
I love how, despite the numerous times Nouns Group's been mentioned on here, NOT ONCE has anyone (on WSJR) discussed their sound, their live show, or their history. What the fuck? Make with a story on the best band in DFW already!
That's because mom said that if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.
I checked out their mp3s yesterday and decided that maybe I need to see them live to understand the hype, cause the mp3s don't do anything for me at all.
MOM, on the other hand, I really liked.
Did someone say Nouns Group?

Lower your expectations, 11:55. Nouns group isnt *that* great
megan, you guys are a bunch of HUMBLE MOTHERFUCKERS. Just realize how FUCKING GOOD YOU ARE and accept it as FACT and then anyone who says otherwise will be LYING.
i can promise that if you don't see nouns group now you will be sorry when they're huge and not playing small venues any more. they rule.
maybe you wouldn't be surprised about Jaffe if you actually caught a show.
She's one of the best guitar players in the area and if you haven't been to a show it doesn't surprise me that you classify the body of her work as run-of-the-mill.
the bulk of what is online is hardly a reflection of her new material and the addition of the electric gibson she's playing now is nice as well.
yet, if you have been to a show, and you think she's 'eh'...well, so be it.
so, you think her guitar's nice? i may have to rethink my position on her artistic output.
Sarah is probably the best solo acoustic performer in town right now. I know that kind of music doesn't do it for most of you on this blog, but artistically she's headed towards becoming Dallas's own version of Lucinda Williams - and that's high praise.
is it?
God I love sarah Jaffe, she can silence a room like no other
