It List: Wednesday 5/16/07
Black Angels/Strange Boys (Dan's Silverleaf): This new Austin band called Strange Boys will be coming to town tonight to open for The Black Angels, this other Austin band.
Jello Biafra Spoken Word (Granada): There's no denying it: in my early teens, Jello Biafra was something of a hero to me. The Dead Kennedys were one of the first punk bands I ever listened to, and they quickly became one of my favorite groups after a friend let me borrow his Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death tape.... Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables followed soon after. Truth be told, I haven't listened to a DK album in years, and I really haven't listened to A LOT of Jello Biafra's solo spoken word material, but I have heard enough to know that a lot of it is funny, intelligent, confrontational, and very very left. I like it. The guy puts out Noam Chomsky and Howard Zinn records for Christ's sake (two of the most important intellectuals in American history), so I guess I'll continue to side with him in his little dispute with East Bay Ray or whatever the fuck is going on with those guys these days. We were supposed to have this bad ass interview with him this week, but before we could get it together his, um, "publicist" wrote us an email stating that Jello had a sore throat and couldn't aggravate it or something. Cool dude. A simple "no" would have worked too. We won't hold it against him for too long, however, since it will be a rare treat to see him speak this evening. Sore throats aren't very punk rock though.
Sticky Buns Dance Party (Rubber Gloves): These are always fun, whether two or 50 people show up.

Ryan Thomas Becker, The Grass Fight, Angels for Dinner and Chirp! Chirp! at Club Dada at 9pm, 17+ show, $5.
East Bay Ray used an Echo-plex. I tend to side with him.
uniformity blows
I still have tickets left for jello's show. Contact me before 6pm if you want to go.
No catch, just free tickets.
Your mom blows.
why the fuck with the sore throat bullshit. that's kind of douchey. i remember hangin with some gutter punks and this train hopping drunk asshole (they were pretty cool) but they were swapping stories about the times they'd kicked the shit out of jello at different times.
baggins, get off the internet!!!
yer mom does what?
yeah, those are hobo's yer talkin' about, puke!
more so than other music genre's, punk does not age well. that's right.

Is it true Boyd Rice will be playing Dallas soon?
did you mean that about strange boys being a new austin band as in, new IN austin?
wow is right, wanz. JANDEK. that is gonna be special. no doubt. i really wanna thank you for bringing it to my attention...
henceforth, i declare a moratorium on wanz-bashing. obeyeth my decree...
OK come correct with the Boyd Rice info! Or was that a joke ... ?
But yeah Jandek w/ be way mad rad ...
i heard those strange dudes are like, weird.
Biafra fucked his band mates out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. That is why he lost the court case and the subsequent appeals.
TOOL, duh.
Haha. Wanz doesn't actually know what "name drop" means.
haha
"OK come correct with the Boyd Rice info! Or was that a joke ... ?"
Luftwaffe (Death in June and Boyd Rice collaborators) are playing Dada this weekend. Don't think Boyd himself will be in attendance.
Whoever says punk doesn't age well is an absolute idiot. Listening to The Minutemen as we speak and I wish to God bands these days could play half as good or be half as original. I think i'll listen to More Songs About Buildings and Food next. What's that? You've never heard of it? Figures.
luftwaffe? how about gestapo? bush administration? maybe S.S. or even C.I.A.!!!!!!!!
