July 12th at the Rose Marine Theater in Ft. Worth. I've heard mixed reviews of his recent live shows (as in some very positive and others a bit unimpressed), but this is a MUST SEE in just about every sense. More info here.
$26 is cheap for something like this. We used to trip out to his albums back in the early 90's. It is an aquired taste, until last year the guy spent 20 years not even letting people see him much less play live. You can still count the number of live shows he has done on 2 hands with plenty of fingers to spare. the first Austin show he did sold out in minutes. Lots of people will be flying in for this one.
I would not expect an earth shattering set. He will simply be Jandek. Which for the fans is enough.
Hype deserved. A very rare treat. Maybe some can get roky to play up here next.
stoned ranger is the new jandek.. this being said.. sorry bout being non-responsive the past few day.. I've been working on my transportation issues. in fact when you called people wore trying to get my signature on fishy paper work. the lady you wish to see won't be here to be seen on the day you will be seen at my place
It's true that Jandek's music isn't very straightforward, and it's also true that a lot of pretentious people probably enjoy mentioning him in conversations more than actually listening to him.
But that being said, to me Jandek's music is quite easy to listen to, even though everything about it says it shouldn't be. I just find it very peaceful and strange without ever being boring. It's true that I haven't come close to checking out even half of his extensive discography, but I really enjoy everything I've ever heard by him, and it is quite cool that someone has booked him in our metro area.
did anyone know that Kinski was opening for Tool last night. I am far from being a Tool fan, but I dig Kinski. They have never played DFW. Too bad it had to be this show. My coworkers were telling me about this annoying band that opened for Tool. "This band only played like 4 chords their whole set. They sucked hard." is what I heard I asked who they were abnd they tell me "somethin like Kinky or something". I bet they went over well with the rest of the Tool crowd(sarcasm). I saw the Flaming Lips open for tool once. That was also weird.
I mistakenly purchased a Jandek disc from a hippie about 10 years ago. I have since evolved.
Jandek is horrible. Whoever posted crap about "trippin' out" to his music, sucks and is probably related to the hippie that conned me out of my 10 bucks.
it seems pretty honest and kind of cute 26 dollars however can suck a wang but hey whatever if you have like 25 years of underground artscene street cred or some bullshit yes. $26 for you.
Yeah, the reason I'm skipping this show will be because of the packed room full of people that want to be seen at a Jandek concert, unlike someone like the Ranger who has a fully fleshed out opinion and understanding of the music.
Not all Tool fans are complete idiots. I hate that a band that good have been lumped into some meathead category, just because it's heavy rock and a few bad apples(due to radio play).
I personally see them closer to Jesus Lizard or Shellac than Godsmack or Creed. Their technically good, the lyrics are intelligent, and they put all of themselves into the music.
I understand that they aren't favorites in the indie community. I just wanted to speak up for myself and several people I know that like Tool and other good music.
They also toured with King Crimson. If anything, give credit for Tool trying to open the minds of some of their fans.
It'll be interesting to see how well they go over at Bonnaroo between the Police and Widespread Panic.

yes, the lyrics are the worst kind of pseudo-spiritual bro garbage ever.
That being said, they're obviously good musicians, and I do like several songs off their first album... but I simply couldn't bring myself to recommend that people go to a Tool show with 5,000 stoned assholes in attendance. No offense to stoners or assholes.
WSJR just posts about good bands, in their opinion, that are playing. They sometimes don't list all the bands on a bill. I've noticed they never list times, price, etc... That's for you to figure out, if you're interested. And it's the responsibility of the venue, promoter & bands to let you know all the info you need. Seems simple enough, but then again, guess you need another reason to bitch.

its $26. are you kidding me?
gay. and not in a good way.
I love the first ten years of his discography, its not like anything else during that time period.
I think his name is unattractive. The first thing I think of is Yanni.

i agree, sd.
ill play him for people, and its always "how can you listen to this?"
check out "ready for the house" (1st album).
That was the first one I got (I guess I always assume that you might as well begin at the beginning) and it's probably my favorite.

Flaming Lips opening up for Tool? woah. thats a wierd combo if i've ever heard one.

whoever is stupid enough to make a purchase from a hippie; sucks..
there's a reason he didn't let anyone see him for so long, because he was embarassed that all he could write was bad blues riffs
Like I said....an aquired taste. Jandek is not for everyone.
Jandek is not for anyone.
i agree with Rock N Roll Nigger on this subject

if anything this should be a lesson to bands that you don't have to play every damn weekend!
Jandek is a karate instuctor in bedford TX. he gouged this guys eye out once
it was cool, i think he wrote a song about it

Oh, and I think the music of Tool is pretty good sometimes, but those lyrics are NOT intelligent.
